• Himachal Pradesh declared as 'Totally Literate State' - Himachal Pradesh was declared as a "Totally Literate State". Before Himachal, only three other states – Tripura, Mizoram and Goa and one Union Territory Ladakh had been declared as fully literate states. Announcing this achievement, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, "The literacy rate of the state has reached 99.30 percent, which is much higher than the national standard of 95 percent.
• 22nd National Book Fair, 2025 - The 22nd National Book Fair, 2025 was held in Lucknow from September 4 to 14, 2025. Governor Anandiben Patel inaugurated it. Its theme is : "Vision 2047: Developed India, Developed States."
• Organizing National Conference on Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan - The Ministry of Tribal Affairs organized the National Conference on Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan with Project Officers from Integrated Tribal Development Agencies on September 9-10, 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Officials from over 20 states participated in it. It aimed to strengthen tribal leadership for a developed India @ 2047. It is designed as the world's largest grassroots accountable governance program, spanning 30 states, 550 districts, over 3000 blocks and over 1 lakh tribal villages.
• 48th Annual Conference on Ocean Law and Policy, 2025 - The 48th Annual Conference on Ocean Law and Policy (COLP48) was held in Delhi, India, from 9-12 September 2025. The theme of the conference was 'Developing a Global Approach to Ocean Governance: Perspectives from the Indian Ocean Rim'. Its objective was to discuss global ocean governance, with a special focus on the Indian Ocean region.
• Inauguration of IIM Ahmedabad's first overseas campus - His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of Dubai, inaugurated the first overseas campus of India's premier business school, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, in Dubai. Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan and UAE Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Abdul Rahman Abdul Mannan Al Awar were also present at the ceremony.
• Clean Air Survey, 2025 - The Clean Air Survey Awards and Wetland City Recognition Ceremony, 2025 was organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (EF&CC) in the presence of the Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has awarded the best performing cities under the Clean Air Survey, 2025 conducted in 130 cities under the National Clean Air Programme. The following cities were presented the awards by the Minister, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change:
Category-1 (population more than 10 lakh):
i. Indore secured first place, scoring 200 out of 200 points. A cash prize of ₹1.5 crore was awarded. Indore planted over 1.6 million trees last year, earning a Guinness World Record. It operates 120 electric buses and 150 CNG buses for public transportation. Jabalpur secured second place with a score of 199 out of 200. A cash prize of ₹1 crore was awarded. Jabalpur has installed an 11-megawatt waste-to-energy plant and developed greenery. Agra and Surat secured third place, scoring 196 out of 200. Each city received a cash prize of ₹2.5 million. Agra reclaimed old garbage dumps and planted Miyawaki trees. Surat implemented an electric vehicle policy to provide incentives and tax benefits to electric vehicles and maintain a 38 percent green cover.
Category-2 (population between 3 to 10 lakhs):
i. Amravati secured first place, scoring 200 out of 200 points. A cash prize of ₹7.5 million was awarded. Amravati improved road infrastructure, including the construction of 340 kilometers of paved roads, carried out extensive greening work in 53 parks, and transformed 19 acres of barren land into dense forest. Jhansi and Moradabad shared second place, scoring 198.5 out of 200. Cash prizes of ₹2.5 million were awarded. Jhansi developed urban greenery and Miyawaki forests. Moradabad worked on road infrastructure and construction and demolition waste management. Alwar secured third place with a score of 197.6 out of 200. A cash prize of ₹2.5 million was awarded. Alwar has reclaimed old garbage dumpsites.
Category-3 (population less than 3 lakh):
i. Dewas secured first place with a score of 193 out of 200. A cash prize of ₹37.50 lakh was awarded. Dewas encouraged industries to switch to cleaner fuels. Parwanoo secured second place with a score of 191.5 out of 200. A cash prize of ₹2.5 million was awarded. Parwanoo worked on the construction of paved roads. Angul secured third place , scoring 191 out of 200 points. A cash prize of ₹12.50 lakh was awarded. Angul also worked on road infrastructure and conducted outreach activities to reach the public. These awards were received by the Mayors, District Collectors and Municipal Commissioners of the respective cities.
• India's 'first AI-powered city'- The Karnataka government is planning to set up India's first and largest Artificial Intelligence (AI) integrated city at Bidadi, about 30 km from Bengaluru . The Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township will be an integrated township, named Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township (GBIT), spread over 9,000 acres, at a cost of ₹20,000 crore. The project aims to decongest the city and create a "work, live and entertain" environment focused on the AI industry, sustainable development and jobs.
• Inauguration of VRDL Conclave, 2025 – Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel inaugurated the National Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) Conclave, 2025 in the national capital Delhi.
• Prime Minister inaugurates and lays foundation stone of development projects worth Rs 18,000 crore in Assam - Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several development projects worth Rs 18,000 crore during his two-day visit to Assam. Prime Minister Modi visited Mangaldoi in Darrang district , where he laid the foundation stone for the Darrang Medical College, Nursing College, and a GNM School. From the same location, he also virtually inaugurated the construction of a new bridge over the Brahmaputra River connecting Narengi in Guwahati and Kuruwa in Darrang, and the Guwahati Ring Road Project. The Prime Minister visited the Numaligarh Refinery in Golaghat district, where he inaugurated India's first bamboo-based bio-refinery. He also laid the foundation stone for a polypropylene unit at the refinery. The Prime Minister attended the birth centenary celebrations of Bhupen Hazarika, where he released a commemorative ₹100 coin and a biography of the legendary singer.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development works worth approximately ₹6,500 crore in Darrang , Assam. PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Darrang Medical College and Hospital, GNM School, B.Sc Nursing College, Guwahati Ring Road Project and the Kuruva-Naregi Bridge over the Brahmaputra River. With an aim to promote clean energy and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Assam Bioethanol Plant and laid the foundation stone of the Polypropylene Plant at Numaligarh Refinery Limited, Golaghat, Assam.
• BIMSTEC Young Leaders Summit, 2025 - India hosted the BIMSTEC Young Leaders Summit in Guwahati, Assam on 9-11 September 2025. The event was organised in collaboration with the Scouts and Guides of India and was inaugurated by the Governor of Assam, Laxman Prasad Acharya. This initiative was part of the 21-point action plan announced by the Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, at the 6th BIMSTEC Summit to further strengthen BIMSTEC. Over 80 young leaders from all BIMSTEC member countries participated in it.
Its primary objective was to promote inclusive leadership and strengthen collaboration and understanding across cultures. The three-day event focused on key topics such as entrepreneurship, design thinking, and sustainable solutions. The conference yielded several outcomes, including the creation of new prototypes for social business, the development of improved communication and collaboration skills, and the creation of trusted networks to strengthen future collaborations. It also highlighted that India's Northeast region serves as a vital land bridge connecting the Bay of Bengal region.
• State Visit of Prime Minister of Mauritius to India - The Honourable Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, met with President Smt. Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on September 16, 2025. This meeting concluded Prime Minister Dr. Ramgoolam's State Visit to India from September 9 to 16.
Dr. Ramgoolam, who arrived in India on September 9, met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi on September 11. During this state visit, he visited Mumbai, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Tirupati. During his visit to India, Mauritius Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam attended a program at the Sri Brahmarshi Ashram in Tirupati. The Prime Minister offered prayers at the Lord Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala. On this occasion, India announced a special economic package of US$680 million for Mauritius and signed seven agreements aimed at further enhancing bilateral cooperation in key areas such as maritime security.
• PM Modi inaugurates and lays foundation stone for development projects worth over Rs 40,000 crore in Purnia- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several development projects worth over Rs 40,000 crore for Bihar in Purnia district. The Prime Minister inaugurated the newly constructed Purnia Airport and started flight services from the airport. PM Modi also launched the National Makhana Board in Bihar. Bihar contributes about 90 percent of the country's total Makhana production. Madhubani, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Saharsa, Katihar, Purnia, Supaul, Kishanganj and Araria are the primary centers.
In the energy sector, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for a 2,400 MW thermal power project in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur. Designed using ultra-supercritical, low-emission technology, the Pirpainti Power Plant is Bihar's largest private sector investment, estimated to cost ₹25,000 crore. Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for the first phase of the Kosi-Mechi interstate river link project, costing over ₹2,680 crore.
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for a railway line between Vikramshila and Kataria, costing over ₹2,170 crore. He also inaugurated a new railway line between Araria and Galgalia, costing ₹4,410 crore, which will connect the Araria and Kishanganj districts of Seemanchal.
• 7 new natural heritage sites from the country included in UNESCO list - Seven new natural heritage sites from across the country have been included in the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, increasing the number of sites from India in this list from 62 to 69. The Ministry of Culture informed that with these inclusions in the list, India now has 49 cultural, 17 natural and 3 mixed heritage sites. The newly included sites include the Deccan Traps at Panchgani and Mahabaleshwar in Maharashtra, the geological heritage of St. Mary's Islands in Karnataka, the Meghalaya Age Caves in Meghalaya, the Naga Hill Ophiolite in Nagaland, the Erra Matti Dibbalu in Andhra Pradesh, the Tirumala Hills and the Varkala Rocks in Kerala.
• Asia's first women's cancer hospital - Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated Asia's first women's cancer center, Apollo Athena, in Delhi . It is Asia's first hospital dedicated exclusively to the treatment of women's cancers. It was developed by Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited (AHEL).
• 2nd National Space Day – The second National Space Day was celebrated across the country on August 23, 2025. The theme of this year's celebration is "Aryabhatta to Gaganyaan: From Ancient Knowledge to Infinite Possibilities". This day is celebrated to commemorate the successful soft landing of Vikram Lander of Chandrayaan-3 mission and deployment of Pragyan Rover on the Moon on August 23, 2023. On this day in 2023, Chandrayaan-3 mission made a safe and soft landing of Vikram Lander on the lunar surface. With this, India became the fourth country to land on the Moon and the first country to land near the Moon's south polar region.
The Pragyan rover was successfully launched, followed by a soft landing. The landing site was named Shiv Shakti Point. In honor of this achievement, the Government of India officially declared August 23 as "National Space Day." As part of this celebration, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) organized the National Space Conference 2.0 in New Delhi.
• International Meeting on Health Research and Innovations in Public Health, 2025 - The Department of Health Research (DHR) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) inaugurated a two-day regional meeting titled "Health Research and Innovations in Public Health: Exchange of Best Practices on Research Platform" in New Delhi. The meeting is part of the Regional Promoter of South and South East Asia Health Research Platform, which aims to promote solidarity, knowledge-sharing and collaboration among participating countries. Senior representatives from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Timor-Leste were present at the event.
• Lok Sabha proceedings will now be translated into 22 languages - Lok Sabha proceedings will now be translated into all 22 languages mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. Till now this facility was available in 18 languages. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has announced inclusion of Kashmiri , Konkani and Santhali languages in the translation of proceedings. Before the start of Lok Sabha proceedings, Birla said that we are providing translation facility in all the languages mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution in the House. Till now, the proceedings of the House were being translated into 18 languages along with Hindi and English. These include Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Kannada, Maithili, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
• The Factories (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill, 2025 - The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly has passed the Factories (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill, 2025, which will soon become law. The bill aims to strengthen workers' rights, allow women to work night shifts, and promote industrial development. The new bill makes significant changes for women. Women will now be able to work in factories at night, a practice previously prohibited. Working hours have also been revised. Workers can now work for six consecutive hours and be present for up to ten and a half hours per day. The bill increases the working hours per week, and the overtime limit has been raised from 75 hours to 144 hours per quarter.
• Fifth Meeting of the Joint Working Group on Agriculture between India and South Africa, 2025 - India and South Africa held the fifth meeting of the Joint Working Group on Agriculture virtually. Key areas of discussion included knowledge exchange, joint research initiatives, capacity building and market access. The two sides also discussed opportunities to further deepen cooperation between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the Agricultural Research Council of South Africa. The meeting was co-chaired by Ajit Kumar Sahu, Joint Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, and Tapasana Molepo, Acting Director, International Trade Promotion, South Africa.
• India's first state-supported biochar program - India's first state-supported biochar program has been launched in Himachal Pradesh, with a biochar plant to be set up in Neri , Hamirpur district . Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu announced the initiative. It aims to reduce forest fires, generate carbon credits, and increase incomes for local communities.
•ICMR's SHINE Program - The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Department of Health Research organized a nationwide student outreach program on Science and Health Innovation for NextGen Explorers (SHINE) in New Delhi. The initiative aims to introduce students to the field of health and biomedical research and inspire young leaders to pursue careers in science and public health. More than 13,000 students from 300 schools in grades 9 to 12 participated in the program.
•17th Biofach India 2025 - Biofach India 2025, one of the largest organic trade fairs in the country, is being held from August 30 to September 1, 2025, at the India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida . More than 27 farmer producer organizations from the Northeast region will showcase a wide range of their products. The event will bring together organic producers, buyers, businesses, policymakers, and stakeholders from around the world. The initiative also focuses on providing farmers with better income opportunities by ensuring access to the right markets and fair prices for their produce.
• Rajasthan Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Bill, 2025 - The Rajasthan Legislative Assembly passed the Rajasthan Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Bill, 2025 by voice vote. The bill aims to ensure social harmony and protect vulnerable groups. According to the bill, anyone found guilty of religious conversion by misrepresentation, force, undue influence, or fraudulent means could face a jail term of 7 to 14 years and a minimum fine of ₹5 lakh. Such conversion of minors, women, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, or persons with disabilities will be punishable by 10 to 20 years in prison and a minimum fine of ₹10 lakh. In cases of mass conversion, the punishment will range from 20 years to life imprisonment and a minimum fine of ₹25 lakh.
Receiving money from foreign or unauthorized sources for religious conversion will be punishable with imprisonment for 10 to 20 years and a minimum fine of ₹20 lakh. Threats to life or property, fraudulent marriage for conversion, human trafficking, or inducement to convert will be punishable with imprisonment for 20 years to life and a minimum fine of ₹30 lakh. Repeat offenders will be punishable with imprisonment for 20 years to life and a minimum fine of ₹50 lakh. The bill also provides for confiscation of properties used for illegal religious conversion.
Marriages entered into solely for the purpose of religious conversion may be declared void by a family court or a competent authority under the law. Individuals wishing to voluntarily convert must notify the District Magistrate or Additional District Magistrate at least 90 days in advance. Failure to do so could result in imprisonment of 7 to 10 years and a minimum fine of ₹3 lakh.
Religious leaders conducting conversions must also inform the district magistrate two months in advance; violation of this provision is punishable by 10 to 14 years of imprisonment and a minimum fine of ₹5 lakh. Anti-conversion laws already exist in several states, including Arunachal Pradesh (1978), Andhra Pradesh (2007), Uttarakhand (2018), Himachal Pradesh (2019), Uttar Pradesh (2021), Karnataka (2021), and Haryana (2022).
• State Energy Efficiency Index, 2024 - The Ministry of Power has released the State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) 2024. This index plays a key role in promoting best practices in energy efficiency across states, monitoring energy use, and fostering competitiveness. According to the index, the top performing states are Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, and Tripura. The best performing states in each group are as follows:
Group 1 (>15 MTOE): Maharashtra
Group 2 (5-15 MTOE): Andhra Pradesh
Group 3 (1-5 MTOE): Assam
Group 4 (< 1 MTOE): Tripura
The sixth edition of the index is based on 66 indicators across seven key demand sectors, including buildings, industry, municipal services, transport, agriculture, power distribution companies, and various sector initiatives, the ministry said. The State Energy Efficiency Index, 2024 assesses the energy efficiency performance of 36 Indian states and union territories for the financial year 2023-24.
•Adi-Vani: India's first AI-powered tribal language translator- The Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched the beta version of 'Adi Vani', India's first Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered translator for tribal languages, on September 1, 2025. The launch was held at the Samrasta Hall of the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi, as part of the Tribal Pride Year celebrations. This translation tool will be a step towards inclusive tribal empowerment and preservation of India's rich linguistic diversity. Adi Vani has been developed to bridge the communication gap between tribal and non-tribal communities under the Tribal Pride Year.
• Atal Utkrisht Shiksha Yojana - The Chhattisgarh government has implemented the "Atal Utkrisht Shiksha Yojana" in the state for the children of construction workers. Under this scheme, children from class 6th to 12th of labourer families will be provided free education in private residential schools. Under the scheme, in the current year, 100 children of construction workers will be provided free education in 14 private residential schools. From the next academic session, 200 children will benefit from this scheme. Their entire expenses will be borne by the Labour Department.
• Official Visit of the Prime Minister of India to Japan - At the invitation of His Excellency Shigeru Ishiba, Prime Minister of Japan, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited Japan from August 29-30, 2025 to attend the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit. This is Prime Minister Modi's eighth visit to Japan. On August 30, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited a semiconductor plant in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. During his visit, India and Japan finalized 13 major agreements and announcements. Japan has set an investment target of 10 trillion yen (approximately ₹60,000 crore) in India over a decade.
• Veer Savarkar Sports Complex – On September 14, 2025, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Naranpura, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
• 200th Birth Anniversary of Dadabhai Naoroji – The 200th birth anniversary of the famous freedom fighter Dadabhai Naoroji was celebrated on September 4, 2025.
• 15th Vice President of India - Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan was sworn in as the 15th Vice President of India and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha on September 12, 2025. President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to him at Rashtrapati Bhavan. In the Vice Presidential election held on September 9, NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan had secured 452 votes. He defeated opposition India Bloc candidate, former Supreme Court judge B. Sudarshan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes. B. Sudarshan Reddy had secured 300 votes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Vice Presidents Jagdeep Dhankhar and Hamid Ansari, cabinet ministers, Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge attended the ceremony. This was Mr. Dhankhar's first public appearance since resigning on July 21 citing health reasons.
• Royal Bhutan Buddhist Temple – The newly constructed Royal Bhutan Buddhist Temple at Rajgir in Nalanda district in Bihar was inaugurated with traditional rites and Buddhist rituals. The temple was inaugurated in September 2025 with Bhutanese rituals in the presence of Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and Union Minister of India Kiren Rijiju.
• Optiemus 'Tempered Glass' Factory Inaugurated - Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav inaugurated Optiemus Infracom's Rs 870 crore factory in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, where 'Tempered Glass' screen protectors will be manufactured. This is India's first tempered glass manufacturing unit, which will make high-quality protective glass covers for mobile phones.
• Approval for development of Green Field Airport at Kota-Bundi (Rajasthan) - The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the proposal of Airports Authority of India (AAI) for development of Green Field Airport at Kota-Bundi (Rajasthan) at an estimated cost of Rs 1,507 crore. The Rajasthan government has already transferred 440.06 hectares of land to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the project, which will be capable of handling A321 type aircraft. The planned facility will include a 20,000-square-meter terminal building with a capacity to handle 1,000 peak-hour passengers and an annual passenger traffic of 2 million.
•Madhya Pradesh's Largest Flyover - Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated the state's largest and most modern flyover (Madanmahal-Damoh Naka Flyover) in Jabalpur. Built at a cost of approximately ₹1,052 crore, this 6.85-kilometer-long elevated corridor is Madhya Pradesh's largest flyover.
• Cement plant inaugurated in Uttar Pradesh - Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a cement plant in Etah district. The plant was built by Shree Cement Limited in the Malavan area of Etah district.
•Inauguration of 'The Kunj' - Union Textiles Minister Shri Giriraj Singh inaugurated "The Kunj" a premier retail and cultural destination on Nelson Mandela Marg in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. It is an initiative dedicated to celebrating and promoting the diverse heritage of Indian handicrafts and handlooms. It aims to empower artisans, increase market access, and reimagine the crafts sector through a design-led, experiential approach.
• Adani Power awarded thermal project contract in Bihar - Adani Power has been awarded a contract to build a 2,400 MW greenfield thermal power plant at Pirpainti in Bhagalpur district, Bihar, with an investment of $3 billion (approximately ₹26,482 crore). Adani Power has been awarded a 25-year power purchase contract from Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited. It will supply power from the 2,400 MW (800 MW x 3) greenfield ultra-supercritical power plant to be set up at Pirpainti.
• Surya Dronathan 2025 - Surya Dronathan 2025 was a national drone competition organised by the Surya Command of the Indian Army and the Drone Federation of India in Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh. The competition aimed to promote indigenous drone technology and innovation in the defence sector, with participation from military teams, startups, freelancers and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
• Announcement of Bathukamma Festival - The Telangana state government has announced plans to celebrate Bathukamma Festival, modeled after Brazil's Rio Carnival. The aim is to attract international tourists and showcase Telangana's cultural heritage on a global platform.
• Brahmaputra Wing inaugurated - Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the newly constructed 'Brahmaputra Wing' of the Assam Raj Bhavan in Guwahati amid chanting of Vedic mantras.
• 27th Saras Aajeevika Mela – The Union Ministry of Rural Development is organizing the 27th Saras Aajeevika Mela, 2025 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi from September 5 to 22, 2025. The theme of the fair this year is – Creating Lakhpati Didis – Empowering Rural Women to Become Successful Entrepreneurs and Champions of Vocal for Local. This fair provides an important platform for rural women to showcase and sell their products. For the first time, the fair will be led entirely by Lakhpati Didis. This is the first time the fair is being held in Delhi with all its components – food stalls, goods sales, etc.
• Shilp Samagam Mela, 2025 - Shilp Samagam Mela 2025 was inaugurated on September 5th at Freedom Park in Bengaluru. The fair will run until September 14th. 75 exhibition stalls featuring artisans from 13 states are on display. The fair is organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in collaboration with Tulip. The fair was inaugurated by Dr. Virendra Kumar, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment. The Shilp Samagam fair specifically highlights the skills and contributions of artisans from diverse communities, including Scheduled Castes (SCs), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and Safai Mitras. It aims to promote the country's art and also provide opportunities for artisans to become self-reliant. The fair was inaugurated by Dr. Virendra Kumar, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment.
• National Conference on the Rights of Transgender Persons, 2025 - The National Human Rights Commission organized a National Conference on the Rights of Transgender Persons on September 4, 2025, at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The conference focused on the theme “Revamping Spaces, Reclaiming Voices.” The conference aimed to create a national platform for dialogue on the rights and welfare of transgender persons, review the implementation of legal provisions and welfare schemes such as the Transgender Persons Act, 2019 and the SMILE Scheme, and recommend practical policy reforms to strengthen institutional care, reduce stigma, and increase access to education, healthcare, and employment.
• Inauguration of Fast Track Immigration-Trusted Traveller Programme ( FTI-TTP) at 5 airports - Union Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of State for Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the Fast Track Immigration-Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) at Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichy, Kozhikode and Amritsar airports via video conferencing . With the introduction of FTI-TTP, passengers get immigration clearance in just 30 seconds, without long lines, manual checking and delays. The Fast Track Immigration-Trusted Traveler Program (FTI-TTP) is a program to facilitate and promote national security. The program launched in Delhi in 2024, with five new airports joining in 2025: Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Cochin, and Ahmedabad.
• 'Bharti' Initiative - The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) launched its new initiative ' Bharti' at the 'Food and Beverages Sector Stakeholders' Meeting' chaired by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal . UAE Foreign Trade Minister Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi and Union Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan were also present on the occasion. 'BHARATI' (India's Incubation Centre for Agricultural Technology, Resilience, Innovation and Export Enablement) aims to empower 100 agri-food and agri-tech startups, promote innovation and achieve the $50 billion agri-food export target by 2030. The initiative will promote innovation in GI-tagged products, organic foods, superfoods, livestock products and AYUSH products.
• Ropeway Construction Agreement in Uttarakhand - National Highway Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) has signed an agreement with the Uttarakhand Tourism Department for the development of two ropeway projects worth Rs 6,800 crore. This agreement has been signed under the Central Government's Parvatmala Project. These two ropeway projects include the 12.9-km long Sonprayag-Kedarnath Ropeway Project with an estimated cost of Rs 4,100 crore and the 12.4-km long Govindghat-Hemkund Sahib Ropeway Project with an estimated cost of Rs 2,700 crore. According to the agreement, NHLML will have a 51 percent equity stake, and the state government will have a 49 percent equity participation. Ninety percent of the revenue share will be spent on tourism, transportation, and mobility projects in the state. This agreement will boost tourism, employment, and the economy in the state.

•23rd General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development, 2025 - The 23rd General Assembly of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) was held in Phuket, Thailand. The theme of the conference was “Media for People, Peace and Prosperity”. India was elected as the Chair of the Executive Board of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development with the highest number of votes at the 23rd Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development Conference . India is a founding member of AIBD and Prasar Bharati represents the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in this organization.
The event brought together international stakeholders in the electronic media and focused on building a collaborative media environment in the Asia-Pacific region through policy exchange and resource sharing. Established in 1977 under the auspices of UNESCO, the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) is a unique regional intergovernmental organization. It currently has over 92 membership organizations from 45 countries.
• Rubella Eliminated in Nepal - The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared that rubella has been eliminated as a public health problem in Nepal. Rubella, commonly known as German measles, is an infectious disease. A highly contagious viral infection, it poses particular risks to pregnant women, causing miscarriage, stillbirth, or serious birth defects.
• New member country of International Big Cat Alliance – Recently Nepal has officially joined the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), an India-led global initiative to conserve seven species of big cats.
• India-US 2+2 Intersessional Dialogue, 2025 - India and the United States held the 2+2 Intersessional Dialogue virtually. The meeting was co-chaired by Nagaraj Naidu Kaknur, Additional Secretary (Americas) in the Ministry of External Affairs, and Vishwesh Negi, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) in the Ministry of Defence. It focused on trade, energy security, and defense cooperation. The meeting aimed to advance a new ten-year defense framework and emphasize a free Indo-Pacific region.
• Fiji Prime Minister's visit to India - Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Ligamamada Rabuka arrived in India on a three-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties in areas such as trade and investment.
• 28th Universal Postal Congress, 2025 - The 28th Universal Postal Congress, 2025 is being held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from September 8 to 19, 2025. More than two thousand delegations from 192 member countries gathered at this conference to chart the future course of global postal services. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia represented India. Jyotiraditya Scindia launched the UPI-UPU integration project at the 28th Universal Postal Congress held in Dubai.
The initiative aims to connect India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with the Universal Postal Union (UPU) interconnection platform to make cross-border remittances faster, safer and less costly. This will enable people from 192 UPU member countries to send and receive money easily through the postal network. India has been re-elected to the Asia-Pacific Postal Governing Council and Council of Administration of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) for the term 2025-28 at the 28th UPU Congress held in Dubai.
• International Earth Science Olympiad 2025 - The 18th International Earth Science Olympiad 2025 was held in Jining, China. The Indian team won a total of seven medals, including one gold, four silver, and two bronze, and also won third prize in the International Geoscience Youth Movement Reporter category. The Indian winners were honored by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh in New Delhi.
• 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, 2025 - The SCO Tianjin Summit 2025 was the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). It was held in Tianjin, China from 31 August to 1 September 2025. It was the largest summit in the history of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and the fifth time China hosted the meeting. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi attended the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, held in Tianjin, China from 31 August to 1 September 2025.
• G20 Global Financial Stability Conference 2025 - The G20 Global Financial Stability Conference 2025, held on September 3, 2025, in Seoul, Republic of Korea, was an important forum to discuss the current state of international finance. It was jointly organized by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea and the Korea Development Institute. The conference aimed to enhance financial stability and resilience amid structural changes.
• Nepal-India Judicial Dialogue 2025 - The Nepal-India Judicial Dialogue 2025 was held in Kathmandu on September 5, 2025. Chief Justice of India, Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai, participated in the dialogue. He held a special meeting with Chief Justice of Nepal, Prakashman Singh Raut. The dialogue aimed to strengthen the judicial systems of the two countries and promote cooperation.
• 16th India-Singapore Defence Working Group Meeting, 2025 - The 16th India-Singapore Defence Working Group Meeting was held in Singapore. The meeting reviewed the progress on implementation of decisions taken at the previous Defence Ministers' Dialogue and various bilateral defence cooperation initiatives. • 15th India-EU Counter-Terrorism Dialogue, 2025 - The 15th meeting of the Joint Working Group on Counter-Terrorism between the European Union and India was held in Brussels on 9 September 2025. The Dialogue was co-chaired by Mr. Maciej Stadzek, Director for Security and Defence Policy at the European External Action Service, and Mr. K. D. Deval, Joint Secretary (Counter-Terrorism) at the Ministry of External Affairs of India.
• Child Nutrition Report 2025 - UNICEF's Child Nutrition Report 2025 has warned of an alarming rise in childhood obesity, largely due to ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and aggressive digital marketing. According to the report, 5% of children under 5 and 20% of children aged 5–19 are overweight, with obesity rates (9.4%) now exceeding malnutrition (9.2%). In South Asia, overweight rates among children aged 5–19 have increased nearly fivefold since 2000. The report highlights serious policy gaps. Only 7% of countries mandate clear food labelling, and only 8% subsidise healthy foods.
• Israel attacks Hamas leaders in Qatar- The Israeli Air Force launched a major attack in Doha, the capital of Qatar, targeting Hamas leaders . Hamas leaders were killed in the attack.
• Nepal's First Female Prime Minister (Interim)- Nepal's President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed former Chief Justice Susheela Karki as the country's new Prime Minister on September 12, 2025. The President administered the oath of office and secrecy to Karki at Shital Niwas. He also announced new elections for March 5, 2026. Susheela Karki, who became Nepal's first female Chief Justice, has now also become the country's first female Prime Minister.
Sushila Karki's appointment comes at a time of deep national turmoil. Gen-Z- led protests, fueled by anger over corruption, political privilege, inherited wealth, and social media restrictions, forced Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to resign. Sushila Karki was selected by the youth of the Gen-Z movement. She received the most support in a vote conducted on the online platform Discord. Sushila Karki was born in Shankarpur, Biratnagar on June 7, 1952. She completed her master's degree from Banaras Hindu University and law from Tribhuvan University in 1978.
• India votes in favour of Palestine in UN General Assembly - India voted in favour of the resolution in the UN General Assembly on September 12, 2025, which supports the 'New York Declaration' on the peaceful settlement of the Palestine issue and the implementation of a two-state solution. The resolution, introduced by France, was passed with 142 countries voting in favour, 10 against, and 12 abstentions. Argentina, Hungary, Israel, and the United States were also among those who voted against it.
•14th International Government Communication Forum 2025 - The 14th International Government Communication Forum (IGCF) 2025 was held in Sharjah, UAE. 237 speakers from around the world participated in over 110 sessions. The theme of the event was "Communication for Quality of Life." Priorities such as food security, public health, education, environmental sustainability, and the green economy were discussed.
• Spain announces nine measures to prevent Gaza genocide– Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced nine measures aimed at preventing "genocide in Gaza" on September 8, 2025.
i. Immediate approval of a royal decree-law: banning the purchase and sale of arms to Israel.
ii. Ban on the entry of Israeli ships and vessels into Spanish ports.
iii. Restrictions on the entry of aircraft carrying Israeli defense material.

• 69th Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency, 2025 - The 69th Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was held in Vienna, Austria, from 15 to 19 September 2025. The conference focused on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and technology and the urgent need to safeguard the global nuclear non-proliferation regime. The Director-General of the IAEA is Rafael Grossi.
• China to set up nature reserve on disputed South China Sea coast - The Chinese government has approved a proposal to establish a national nature reserve in the disputed Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea, a move opposed by the Philippines. The Philippines maintains that Scarborough Shoal falls under Philippine sovereignty and has long been an integral part of the Philippines. China occupied Scarborough Shoal after a naval standoff in 2012 and has maintained a coast guard presence there since then.
• World's first AI-generated government minister - Albania has appointed the world's first Artificial Intelligence-based government minister with the aim of making the country corruption-free. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the digital minister in his cabinet. The digital assistant is named 'Diela' which means 'Sun'. Prime Minister Edi Rama said that Diela has been given the responsibility of making all decisions related to public tenders, in order to make them 100 percent corruption-free. Diela is depicted as a woman wearing traditional Albanian attire.

•Private Sector Share in Defence Production in FY 2024-25 - The private sector's share in defence production reached a record 22.56% in FY 2024-25. According to data from the Department of Defence Production, private sector companies contributed ₹33,979 crore (22.56%) to the total defence production of ₹1,50,590 crore in FY 2024-25. This is the largest share of private sector participation since 2016-17, when it was 19%.
• Punjab National Bank's first startup branch - Punjab National Bank, India's leading public sector bank, has inaugurated its first startup-focused branch at Bhikaji Cama Place, New Delhi. In line with the Startup India initiative, the branch aims to foster entrepreneurship and promote innovation through services covering all aspects of banking solutions.
• 17th CII Global MedTech Summit, 2025 - The 17th CII Global MedTech Summit was held in New Delhi. The theme of the summit was, " Innovation for a Healthier Future - Advancing MedTech for Global Impact: Make in India, Make for the World." • BRICS CCI Healthcare Summit, 2025 – Union Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav chaired the BRICS CCI Healthcare Summit, 2025. The summit was held in New Delhi and its theme was “Bridge of Tradition and Innovation”.
• Bihar State Jeevika Nidhi Credit Cooperative Federation Limited - Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched the Bihar State Jeevika Nidhi Credit Cooperative Federation Limited. The objective of Jeevika Nidhi is to provide easy access to funds at affordable interest rates to community members associated with Jeevika. All registered cluster-level Jeevika federations will become members of this organization. The Bihar government as well as the central government will contribute funds for the operation of this organization. The Prime Minister also transferred ₹105 crore to the bank account of the organization. Through this scheme, rural women entrepreneurs of the state will now have easy access to funds.
• 2nd India MedTech Expo 2025 – India MedTech Expo 2025 was held in New Delhi from 4th to 6th September 2025. The event is organized by the Department of Commerce, Government of India , in collaboration with the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Ministry of AYUSH and various Export Promotion Councils.
• 56th GST Council Meeting, 2025 - The 56th GST Council Meeting, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, was held on September 3, 2025, at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi . At this meeting, the GST Council completely abolished the 12% and 28% tax slabs. Now, only two main tax slabs, 5% and 18%, will apply across the country. As per the recommendations made in the 56th meeting of the GST Council, the new GST rates on all goods (except pan masala, gutkha, cigarettes, zarda, unprocessed tobacco and beedis) will be effective from September 22, 2025. Only tobacco and tobacco-related products will be included in the new framework on a date to be decided by the Finance Minister.
The "GST Savings Festival" is an initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of GST 2.0, the Next Generation Reforms. Its objective is to directly benefit the general public and provide relief by reducing the prices of essential commodities. GST has now been completely eliminated on all types of bread, including paratha, roti, khakhra, and pizza bread. Meanwhile, clothing and footwear up to ₹2,500 are subject to a 5% tax rate. Goods moved from the 28% to 18% slab include cement, small cars and motorcycles (up to 300 cc), buses, trucks, and ambulances, a flat 18% tax on all auto parts, and three-wheelers.
• Launch of Microsite for Banknotes - The Reserve Bank of India launched a microsite for banknotes. This microsite provides the general public with simple and effective information on banknotes, including a 360-degree view of the banknotes, an overview of the design and security features, multimedia (video, audio and animation), interactive games, etc. The microsite has a separate section dedicated to information on banknote exchange. This new microsite replaces the earlier microsite.
• APEDA's first office in Patna - Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated the first regional office of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority of India (APEDA) in Patna. The office has been established in the Krishi Bhawan complex in Mithapur. The event was held during the 'Bihar Idea Festival'. This is a historic step towards making Bihar's agricultural and processed food products accessible to the global market. Until now, Bihar's exporters were dependent on APEDA's Varanasi office. On this occasion, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal flagged off the first commercial shipment of GI-tagged (Geographical Indication) Mithila Makhana. Seven tons of Makhana, valued at approximately ₹1 crore, were headed to the United States, Canada, and New Zealand. This export consignment was led by Neha Arya, a female entrepreneur from Darbhanga.
• Acquisition of Axio - Amazon has completed the acquisition of Bengaluru- based Indian fintech lender Axio (formerly Capital Float), valued at approximately $200 million (₹1,762 crore). The acquisition has received approval from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
•World Bank approves new program to support coastal communities in India- The World Bank has approved a $212.64 million loan to support coastal communities in India by conserving ecosystems, reducing plastic pollution, and creating employment for 100,000 people in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The financing is provided by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) under the first phase of the "Coastal Resilience and Economy Strengthening (SHORE) Program." The loan has a final maturity of 23 years, including a 6.5-year grace period. The project is part of the $850 million SHORE program, launched by the World Bank to address challenges faced by coastal communities.
• Annual Opium Poppy Licensing Policy, 2025-26 – The central government has announced the annual licensing policy for opium poppy cultivation for the crop year 2025-26 (October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026). Under this policy, approximately 1.21 lakh farmers in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh will be eligible to obtain licenses for opium cultivation. The policy aims to ensure an adequate supply of alkaloids for medical and palliative care needs. It is also an important step towards promoting domestic production of essential narcotic drugs and increasing processing capacity towards a self-reliant India. Farmers with yields of 900 kg/hectare or more will be encouraged to practice traditional opium gum cultivation. Farmers who fail to meet the minimum qualifying yield (MQY) of 800 kg/hectare in the 2024-25 crop year will have their CPS licenses suspended for 2025-26.

• 4th SEMICON INDIA 2025 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the fourth edition of SEMICON INDIA 2025 on September 2. It is India's largest semiconductor and electronics show, held from September 2 to 4, 2025, at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The theme for this year is "Building the Next Semiconductor Superpower". The three-day event aimed to showcase the country's growing capabilities and ambitions in the microelectronics and semiconductor value chain. For the first time, the exhibition featured four international pavilions from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia. 350 exhibiting companies from 18 countries and regions showcased their products.
• Agni-5 successfully test-fired - India successfully test-fired the Agni-5 medium-range ballistic missile from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha. The Agni-5 test was conducted under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command, the body responsible for operating India's nuclear arsenal. The Agni-5 missile has a range of over 5,000 kilometers , allowing it to reach almost all countries in the Asian continent and parts of Europe. It is equipped with advanced navigation, guidance, and re-entry systems. It is capable of carrying both nuclear and conventional warheads. Developed by the DRDO, this missile is based entirely on indigenous technology and can be fired from a road-mobile launcher.
The Agni-V, a surface- to-surface missile, has a three-stage, solid-fuel engine. The Agni series is the mainstay of India's nuclear-capable missiles. The first, the Agni-1, had a range of 700 km. It was followed by the Agni-2 (2,000 km), Agni-3 (3,500 km), and Agni-4 (4,000 km).
• World's most powerful rocket Starship successfully launched - American billionaire Elon Musk 's private space company SpaceX recently conducted the 10th successful test of the world's most powerful rocket, Starship. This rocket was built by Elon Musk's company SpaceX. The rocket launched at 5:00 am from Boca Chica, Texas. This test lasted 1 hour and 6 minutes. All objectives, from launching the Starlink simulator satellite into space to starting the engines, were accomplished in this mission. The Starlink Simulator Satellites are dummies of the actual Starlink satellites. They are used to test Starship's satellite deployment capabilities. The upper and lower platforms are collectively called Starships. The vehicle stands 403 feet tall and is fully reusable.
• NASA's Surya AI - NASA and IBM have launched an advanced open-source AI model named "Surya." The model's name is derived from the Sanskrit word for "sun." The model is trained on nine years of high-resolution solar data from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). The model is trained on high-resolution solar data and can predict solar storms up to 2 hours in advance, helping protect critical infrastructure like GPS, communication systems, and power grids. It will provide better tracking of solar weather with 16% greater accuracy than previous systems. Surya has been open-sourced, allowing the global scientific community to use it for research and optimization.
• NASA discovers Uranus' 29th moon - NASA has announced that the James Webb Space Telescope has discovered a new, 29th moon of Uranus, named S/2025 U1. According to NASA, a team led by the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) identified the moon, increasing the number of the planet's known satellite family to 29. The moon is estimated to be about 10 kilometers in diameter and orbits the planet at a distance of about 56,000 kilometers.
• First human case of flesh-eating screwworm parasite confirmed in the US - The first human case of infection with a flesh-eating parasite has been reported in the US. The Department of Health and Human Services reported that New World screwworm (NWS) myiasis was found in a patient who returned to the US from El Salvador. New World screwworm (NWS) myiasis is a parasitic infection of fly larvae, or maggots, caused by parasitic flies. This pest primarily affects livestock. This destructive insect, which feeds on living tissue, is commonly found in South America and the Caribbean.
• Surgeons in China successfully transplant a pig lung into a human - Surgeons in China have successfully transplanted a pig lung into a brain-dead human recipient and found it remained functional for nine days. Doctors are hailing it as a significant achievement in the field of xenotransplantation.
• India's first National Biofoundry Network - India has launched its first National Biofoundry Network under the BioE3 policy (Economy, Environment, Employment). It was launched by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of Science and Technology.
• Yudh Abhyas, 2025 - The joint military exercise 'Yudh Abhyas 2025' between India and the US concluded successfully at Fort Wainwright and the Yukon Training Area in Alaska. The exercise began with a formal opening ceremony on September 1 and lasted for two weeks. 450 soldiers each from both armies participated in this 21st edition. The Indian Army was led by a battalion of the Madras Regiment, while the US side included troops from the 11th Airborne Division.
• Enteromics Cancer Vaccine - Russian scientists have developed a cancer vaccine, Enteromics, which has proven 100% effective and safe in clinical trials. This vaccine not only reduced tumor size but also, in some cases, completely eliminated cancer cells. The vaccine was developed by Russia's National Medical Research Radiological Center in collaboration with the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology.
• INS Aravali - On September 12, 2025, INS Aravali, the Navy's new naval base in Gurugram, Haryana, was commissioned into the Navy. It is named after the famous Aravalli mountain range. INS Aravali is designed to strengthen the Navy's information and communications infrastructure. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi formally commissioned it into the Navy.
• Indian Navy's first indigenous 3D air surveillance radar - Tata Advanced Systems Limited, in collaboration with Spanish engineering company Indra, has developed the first indigenous 3D air surveillance radar, the Lanza-N, for the Indian Navy . This radar is installed on a warship. This radar is capable of tracking both air and surface targets in 3D. Its range is 254 nautical miles (approximately 470 km). It can detect drones, supersonic fighter jets, anti-radiation missiles, and naval platforms.

• 16th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, 2025 - The 16th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) was held. This year, the festival featured 75 films in 31 languages, including films from Burma, Bhutan, and Nepal. The festival opened with Tilottama Shome's Bengali film "Baksho Bondi."
Neeraj Ghaywan's "Homebound" scored big wins, winning Best Film and Best Director. Aamir Khan was honored with the "Excellence in Cinema" award for his long-term contribution to the film industry. Abhishek Bachchan won Best Actor (Male) for "I Want to Talk," and Gugun Kigpen received a Special Mention award for "Boong."

• 67th Ramon Magsaysay Awards, 2025 - The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation has honored three winners for 2025: India 's "Educate Girls" Foundation, which empowers girls through education, environmental activist Shahina Ali of the Maldives, and Flaviano Antonio L. Villanueva of the Philippines , who has been selected for his service to the homeless.
Educate Girls, an Indian organization working to educate underprivileged girls across the country, has been selected for the 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Award. Educate Girls, also known as the Foundation to Educate Girls Globally, has educated over 2 million girls in 30,000 villages. Known as Educate Girls, the foundation is the first Indian organization to receive this prestigious award. Based in Rajasthan, the foundation was founded in 2007 by Safina Hussain.
Shahina Ali (Maldives) has been awarded this award for her dedication to ocean conservation and green activism. Flaviano Antonio L. Villanueva (Philippines) is known for restoring dignity to Manila's poor and homeless. His life of service has focused on material assistance, advocacy, and spiritual care for the marginalized. Each recipient will receive a medal, a certificate, and a cash prize. The 67th Ramon Magsaysay Awards will be presented on November 7 at the Metropolitan Theater in Manila.
• 16th Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza Sahitya Samman, 2025 - Theatre personality, film actor and writer Atul Tiwari was awarded the 16th Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza Sahitya Samman, 2025 on September 1, 2025. This award for the year 2024 was given to Kumar Prashant.
• Silver Banyan Award for Best Cultural Music and Dance- The Week Heritage Awards has awarded the Silver Banyan Award for 'Best Cultural Music and Dance' to the Hornbill Festival of Nagaland. The award was presented by Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, at a function held in New Delhi. Joint Resident Commissioner Sharon Longchari received the award on behalf of the state at Nagaland House, New Delhi. The Heritage Awards are given for the preservation and promotion of the country's rich heritage and culture.
Scheme/Project
• Establishment of "Gita Bhavans" in urban bodies - The Madhya Pradesh cabinet has approved the Geeta Bhavan project. Geeta Bhavans will now be constructed in 413 urban bodies across the state. The government will provide land for 1 rupee to those bodies where land is unavailable. These buildings will include a large hall, a library, an e-library, and modern facilities for cultural activities. The government has allocated a budget of 100 crore rupees for this project. The Geeta Bhawans will be constructed on a PPP (Public Private Partnership) basis. They will be developed as social, cultural, and educational centers. This initiative aims to encourage accessible study of religious texts, literature, and scientific research, and to boost the currently declining interest in reading among the public.
• "Ek Bagiya Maa Ke Naam" Project - Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has launched the "Ek Bagiya Maa Ke Naam" project in the state under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA). Under this project, more than 3 million fruit trees will be planted on the private lands of eligible women from more than 30,000 self-help groups through MNREGA, which will become the basis for the economic progress of women.
• Vishwakarma Youth Entrepreneur Incentive Scheme - The Rajasthan government has approved the Vishwakarma Youth Entrepreneur Incentive Scheme to empower the state's youth and provide them with new employment opportunities. Under this scheme, youth between the ages of 18 and 45 will receive low-interest loans to start their own businesses or expand existing ones. Loans up to ₹2 crore (approximately $20 million) can be taken, with an 8% interest subsidy from the government.
• Chief Minister Women's Employment Scheme - The Bihar government has launched the "Chief Minister Women's Employment Scheme" to promote women's employment and promote women's empowerment. The main objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance to one woman from each family in the state to start a career of her choice. The implementation process for this scheme has been initiated by the Rural Development Department, Government of Bihar, through the Bihar Rural Livelihood Promotion Committee (Jeevika).
The Urban Development and Housing Department, Government of Bihar, will be involved in implementing the scheme in urban areas. Under the scheme, a first installment of ₹10,000 will be provided as financial assistance to one woman from each family to pursue a career of her choice. After women begin employment, additional financial assistance of up to ₹2 lakh will be provided based on assessments and as needed.
• Deen Dayal Lado Laxmi Yojana - The Haryana government has launched the Deen Dayal Lado Laxmi Yojana to empower women with self-reliance. The scheme aims to empower women financially and provide social security. Haryana State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (HARTRON) has developed an app for the Deen Dayal Lado Laxmi Yojana, allowing eligible women to apply. A monitoring committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini to review the scheme every three months.
Operation/Campaign
•Multilateral Exercise 'Bright Star 2025' - The multilateral military exercise 'Bright Star 2025' was held in Egypt from 28 August to 10 September 2025, in which armies from over 40 countries including India participated. It is the largest tri-service exercise in the Middle East and North Africa region, hosted by Egypt and the US, aimed at enhancing cooperation, synergy and interoperability between the armies of different countries. Bright Star 2025 is a multilateral US Central Command exercise conducted across land, air, and maritime domains. More than 700 personnel from the Indian Air Force, Army, and Navy participated in the exercise. The Indian Navy's stealth frigate INS Trikand arrived in Alexandria, Egypt, on September 1, 2025, as part of its operational deployment to the Mediterranean.
• Operation Black Forest - Union Home Minister Amit Shah met and honored CRPF, Chhattisgarh Police, DRG, and CoBRA personnel in New Delhi for successfully carrying out "Operation Black Forest" on the Karreguttalu hills in Bastar, Chhattisgarh. During the meeting, he reiterated the government's resolve to rid the country of Naxalism by March 31, 2026.
• Exercise Achuk Prahar- Exercise Achuk Prahar was a joint fire exercise conducted by infantry troops of the Spear Corps of the Indian Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in Arunachal Pradesh. It aimed to test their combat readiness and operational coordination under simulated battlefield conditions.
• Sagarmatha Friendship, 2025 - The armed forces of Nepal and China commenced the fifth edition of the joint military exercise “Sagarmatha Friendship, 2025” in Kathmandu, Nepal from 6 to 16 September 2025. The main objective of the exercise is to enhance cooperation in counter-terrorism capabilities, disaster management and UN peacekeeping operations.
• Exercise Yudh Kaushal 3.0 – The Indian Army conducted Exercise Yudh Kaushal 3.0 in the high altitude Kameng region of Arunachal Pradesh, showcasing its preparedness for next-generation warfare in extreme Himalayan conditions. The exercise, conducted by the General Officer Commanding, Gajraj Corps, included large-scale maneuvers with drone surveillance, precision strikes, real-time target acquisition, air-coastal operations and coordinated battlefield tactics.
• First ever tri-services women sailing expedition 'Samudra Pradakshina' - Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually flagged off the tri-services women sailing expedition 'Samudra Pradakshina' from Gateway of India, Mumbai on September 11, 2025 from Delhi. This expedition is the first of its kind in the world. Ten women officers from all three services will embark on the indigenously built Indian Army Sailing Vessel (IASV) " Triveni" on the Eastern Route covering a distance of approximately 26 thousand nautical miles over the next nine months, including some of the most dangerous waters of the world.
They will cross the equator twice, circumnavigate three capes – Leeuwin, Horn and Good Hope – and transit all major oceans and some of the most dangerous waters, including the Southern Ocean and the Drake Passage. The team will also visit four international ports before returning to Mumbai in May 2026.
The 10-member team includes Lieutenant Colonel Anuja Varudkar, who is leading the expedition, Squadron Leader Shraddha P Raju, Major Karamjeet Kaur, Major Omita Dalvi, Captain Prajakta P Nikam, Captain Dauli Butola, Lieutenant Commander Priyanka Gusain, Wing Commander Vibha Singh, Squadron Leader Aruvi Jaydev and Squadron Leader Vaishali Bhandari.
• Exercise, “Siyom Prahar” – Exercise “Siyom Prahar” is a major field training exercise being conducted by the Indian Army from September 8 to 10, 2025 in the rugged mountainous region of Arunachal Pradesh. The exercise is named after the Siyom River in the state, a tributary of the Brahmaputra. It aims to validate the use of drone technology in modern tactical operations.
• Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan - Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan is a landmark initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Women and Child Development . The Abhiyaan is focused on improving the health and nutrition of women and children across India. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 75th birthday on September 17, 2025, the Abhiyaan will continue till Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, 2025. The Abhiyaan is organising over one lakh health camps, making it the largest ever health campaign for women and children in the country. The Abhiyaan aims to ensure "Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar" - Healthy Women, Empowered Families and a Strong Nation.
• 77th Anniversary of Operation Polo - On September 13, 2025, India celebrated the 77th anniversary of Operation Polo. Operation Polo was launched to integrate Hyderabad into the Indian Union.
• Multinational Exercise Pacific Reach, 2025 - Multinational Exercise Pacific Reach, 2025 is being conducted in Singapore from 15-29 September 2025. More than 40 countries will participate in this biennial exercise. The exercise will be conducted primarily in two phases, comprising harbour and sea phases. Indian Navy's new ship INS Nistar arrived at Changi Naval Base, Singapore on 14 September on its maiden overseas visit. The ship will now participate in the multinational exercise 'Pacific Reach 2025' (XPR-25), which commenced on 15 September. The ship will operate under the command of the Commander of the Eastern Fleet of the Indian Navy.

• 10th World Robot Conference, 2025- The 10th World Robot Conference 2025 (WRC 2025) was held in Beijing, China from 8 to 12 August 2025. It aims to promote scientific and technological progress under new industrial development trends in the world.
• National Summit on Technical Textiles and Developed India, 2025 – A National Summit on Technical Textiles and Developed India was organised in Patna, Bihar to discuss the contribution and role of technical textiles in India's growth story.
• Second Global Spiritual Tourism Conference “Roohmantic” – The second Global Spiritual Tourism Conference was organized in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, which was named “Roohmantic”.
• All India Speakers' Conference, 2025 - Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the All India Speakers' Conference, 2025, held at the Delhi Legislative Assembly. It was organized to commemorate the 100th anniversary of freedom fighter Vithalbhai Patel becoming the first elected Indian Speaker of the Central Legislative Assembly. The conference, organized under the leadership of Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijayendra Gupta, was attended by Speakers, Deputy Speakers of State Legislative Assemblies, and Chairmen and Deputy Chairmen of Legislative Councils from across the country. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will lead the Indian Parliamentary Delegation to the 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC). Om Birla will address the 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association General Assembly on the theme 'Commonwealth: A Global Partner'. The Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC) is the annual conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA). It is the largest annual gathering of Commonwealth parliamentarians, who gather to discuss global parliamentary and political issues. Each year, the conference is hosted by a different Commonwealth parliament.
• Fifth ASEAN-India Youth Summit, 2025 - The Fifth ASEAN-India Youth Summit was held in Goa from August 28-31, 2025. Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita inaugurated the summit. The theme of the fifth summit was “Engaging Youth: Shaping Our Future”. It was organized by the Ministry of External Affairs in collaboration with the India Foundation and the ASEAN Foundation, and with the support of the Government of Goa.
• 20th CII India-Africa Business Summit 2025 - The 20th CII India-Africa Business Summit 2025 was held in New Delhi. The theme of the summit was "Co-creating a Shared Future". • First Gyan Bharatam International Conference, 2025 - The Ministry of Culture organized the first Gyan Bharatam International Conference from September 11 to 13, 2025 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, dedicated to the preservation, digitization and dissemination of India's manuscript heritage. The theme was “Reclaiming India's Knowledge Heritage through Manuscript Heritage”. Culture Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was present as the Chief Guest in the closing session.
• 11th Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association India Region, 2025 - Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla inaugurated the 11th Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region at Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru on September 11, 2025. The theme of the Conference is "Debates and Discussions in the Houses of Legislature: Building Public Confidence, Fulfilling Public Aspirations".
• Unmesh: International Literature Festival, 2025 - The Union Ministry of Culture and Sahitya Akademi organized Unmesh: International Literature Festival from 25th to 28th September, 2025 in Patna , Bihar. Governor of Bihar Arif Mohammad Khan inaugurated the festival at Samrat Ashok Convention Hall. The festival, being held from 25th to 28th September, 2025, is a celebration of multilingual literature, providing an excellent platform for writers, scholars, publishers and poets from 15 countries, representing over 100 languages. Vice President of India Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan attended the closing session of the third edition of Unmesh – International Literature Festival held in Patna as the Chief Guest.
• 3rd Science & Technology Cluster Conclave, 2025 - The 3rd Science & Technology Cluster Conclave, 2025 was held in Visakhapatnam on September 9-10, 2025. It was chaired by Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to India. Professor Sood also inaugurated Ayantram, a dedicated e-waste management facility set up by the Visakhapatnam Science & Technology Cluster. This facility is capable of safely collecting, segregating, dismantling, and recycling a wide variety of discarded electronic waste, including medical electronics, information technology hardware, and consumer appliances.
• National Conference Corp-Con, 2025 - NALSAR University and the Institute of Company Secretaries of India jointly inaugurated a national conference, Corp-Con, 2025, in Hyderabad on September 12, 2025. Mr. Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, Director General and CEO, Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs, was invited as the Chief Guest. The theme was Environment, Society and Governance (ESG) and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
• 4th Coast Guard Global Summit, 2025 - The 4th Coast Guard Global Summit, 2025 was held in Rome, Italy on September 11-12, 2025. The summit was co-chaired by Italy and Japan. Representatives from 115 countries and international organizations participated in the summit. India will host the 5th Coast Guard Global Summit in Chennai in 2027.
• Saudi Arabia Jewellery Exhibition ( SAJEX), 2025 – Saudi Arabia Jewellery Exhibition (SAJEX), 2025 held on September 11-13, 2025 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
• National Conference of Committees of Parliament and State/UT Legislatures on Empowerment of Women, 2025 - Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla inaugurated the first National Conference of Committees of Parliament and State/UT Legislatures on Empowerment of Women in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh on 14 September 2025. The theme of the two-day conference is “Empowering Women to Meet the Challenges of Emerging Technologies”.
The main objective of this conference is to prepare women for leadership in an era of technological change. The agenda includes the theme "Women-led Development for a Developed India" and two sub-themes: (i) "Gender Responsive Budgeting" and (ii) "Empowering Women to Meet the Challenges of Emerging Technologies."
•4th World Food India, 2025 – Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the fourth edition of World Food India 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 25, 2025. Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Food Processing Minister Chirag Paswan and Minister of State for Food Processing and Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu were present at the inaugural session.
The four-day mega event is being held across an area of one lakh square meters and will continue till September 28. It is considered to be the largest ever event in the country's food processing sector, with participation from 21 countries, 21 Indian states and union territories, 10 central ministries and 5 partner government organizations.
This time, New Zealand and Saudi Arabia will be partner countries, while Japan, Russia, UAE, and Vietnam will be focus countries. World Food India 2025 is based on five main pillars – sustainability and net zero food processing, making India a global hub, advancements in food processing and packaging technologies, food products for nutrition and wellness, and livestock and marine products to boost the rural economy.
• First India-Norway Maritime Security, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Dialogue, 2025 - The first Maritime Security, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Dialogue between India and Norway was held in Oslo, Norway on September 11, 2025. The Indian delegation was led by Ms. Muanpui Sayavi, Joint Secretary (Disarmament and International Security Affairs) in the Ministry of External Affairs, while the Norwegian delegation was led by Mr. John Elvedal Frederiksen, Director General, Department for Security Policy and the High North, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The next round of the Dialogue will be held in New Delhi.
• Sarpanch Samvad National Quality Conference, 2025 - The Quality Council of India, in collaboration with the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, and the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, organized the Sarpanch Samvad National Quality Conference in New Delhi. The conference, centered on the theme "Developed Village to Developed India" was attended by 75 eminent Sarpanches from 22 states and engaged in meaningful discussions on five thematic areas drawn from the local Sustainable Development Goals. The conference was inaugurated by Shri C.R. Patil, Union Minister for Jal Shakti.
This conference achieved the historic milestone of successfully connecting over 60,000 Sarpanches across the country to the Sarpanch Samvad mobile app. The government aims to bring all 250,000 Sarpanches on this platform, so that every village can progress together on the pillars of cleanliness and safety.
Treaty/Agreement
• Agreement between Indian Railways and State Bank of India - A historic agreement was signed between the State Bank of India (SBI) and Indian Railways at Rail Bhavan in New Delhi. Under the agreement, railway employees holding salary accounts with SBI will receive enhanced insurance coverage. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar and SBI Chairman C.S. Setty were present on the occasion.
Under the agreement, accidental death insurance cover for railway employees has been increased to ₹1 crore. Until now, Group A, B, and C employees received coverage of only ₹1.20 lakh, ₹60,000, and ₹30,000, respectively, under the Central Government Employees Group Insurance Scheme (CGEGIS). Additionally, all railway employees maintaining a salary account with SBI will now be entitled to a natural death insurance cover of ₹10 lakh without the need for any premium payment or medical examination.
The agreement is expected to benefit approximately 700,000 railway employees. The agreement also includes a number of supplementary insurance benefits, including air accident death insurance cover of ₹1.60 crore with an additional balance of up to ₹1 crore on RuPay debit cards, personal accident permanent total disability cover of ₹1 crore, and personal accident permanent partial disability cover of up to ₹80 lakh.
• India and ADB sign agreement to promote sustainable tourism in Uttarakhand - The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $126.42 million loan agreement to promote sustainable and climate-resilient tourism in the Tehri Lake region of Uttarakhand . The agreement aims to benefit more than 87,000 residents and 2.7 million annual visitors through improved infrastructure, better tourism planning, improved sanitation and waste management, and disaster preparedness. The project targets Tehri Garhwal, one of the state's most climate-vulnerable and economically disadvantaged districts.
• Agreement for the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline – Russia and China recently signed an agreement to build an ambitious gas pipeline called Power of Siberia 2. This is a binding agreement, from which neither country can withdraw. Under this agreement, Russia's Gazprom will transport gas from Western Siberia to China via Mongolia. This pipeline will provide China with an additional 50 billion cubic meters of gas each year. •Lord Swaraj Paul - Indian-born British industrialist Lord Swaraj Paul has died in London. He was 94. He moved to the UK in the 1960s for his younger daughter, Ambika, to receive cancer treatment.
