National
• Census of India 2027 - Census of India 2027 or 16th Census of India will be conducted in two phases, a Houselisting phase and a Population Enumeration phase.The national census is scheduled to begin on March 1, 2027. This 16th census will also conduct a caste count for the first time since 1931. The reference date for Population Census, 2027 will be 00:00 hours on 1st March, 2027. For the Union Territory of Ladakh and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the asynchronized snow-covered areas of the States of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the reference date will be 00:00 hours on 1st October, 2026.
This is the 16th census since the census began in India and the eighth after independence. This census will be conducted after 16 years as the last census was conducted in 2011. The 16th census to be held in the country in 2027 will be online. Caste count and census will be done on digital platform for the first time. A special web portal will be started for this. Citizens can fill the information themselves on this. About 34 lakh enumerators and supervisors and about 1.3 lakh census workers will be deployed for census activities.
The notification of intention to conduct Population Census, as per the provision of Section 3 of the Census Act 1948, will be published in the Official Gazette on 16.06.2025. The Census of India is conducted under the provisions of the Census Act, 1948 and the Census Rules, 1990.
• Two wetlands of Rajasthan included in Ramsar site– On 4 June 2025, two wetlands of Rajasthan, Kheechan in Phalodi and Menar in Udaipur have been included in the list of Ramsar sites. Rajasthan now has a total of 4 Ramsar sites. With this, India now has a total of 91 Ramsar sites, which is the highest in Asia. Kheechan is famous for hosting thousands of migratory Demoiselle Cranes, while Menar (bird village) is known for its community-led bird conservation efforts. The Ramsar site is an international treaty for the conservation of wetlands, aimed at ensuring the preservation of global biodiversity. It was signed in 1971 in Ramsar, Iran.
• India's first underwater museum and artificial coral reef - India's first underwater museum and artificial coral reef will be developed around the decommissioned warship INS Guldar near Nivati Rocks at Vengurla in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. The 1,120-tonne ship was decommissioned in January 2024. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis virtually launched the project on June 10, 2025. The Union Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned Rs 46.91 crore for the project. The initiative, supported by the Central Government, aims to promote marine conservation and tourism, including by facilitating scuba diving and, in the future, submarine tourism.
• Foundation stone laying, inauguration and dedication of several development projects in Jammu and Kashmir - Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone, inaugurated and dedicated to the nation several development projects worth over Rs 46,000 crore in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir on June 6, 2025. The Prime Minister inaugurated the railway bridges Chenab Bridge and Anji Bridge.
The Chenab Rail Bridge is the world's highest railway arch bridge. It is a 1,315-metre-long steel arch bridge, located at a height of 359 metres above the river. The Anji Bridge is India's first cable-stayed rail bridge. One of the main objectives of the Chenab Bridge is to improve connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. The Vande Bharat train running on the bridge will reduce the travel time between Katra and Srinagar by just 3 hours, reducing the existing travel time by 2-3 hours.
The Prime Minister also dedicated the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project to the nation. It is a 272 km long project, consisting of 36 tunnels (spanning 119 km) and 943 bridges. Its construction cost is approximately Rs 43,780 crore. The Prime Minister also flagged off two Vande Bharat Express trains from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar and back.
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of road widening project from Rafiabad to Kupwara on National Highway-701 and construction of Shopian bypass road on NH-444 , costing over Rs 1,952 crore. He also inaugurated two flyover projects at Sangram Junction on National Highway-1 in Srinagar and Bemina Junction on National Highway-44. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence in Katra, costing over Rs 350 crore. This will be the first medical college in Reasi district.
• India wins Presidency of International Institute of Administrative Sciences – On June 3, 2025, India secured the Presidency of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) in Brussels for the term 2025-2028. For the first time in the 100-year history of the Belgium-based International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS), India will chair it. This is the first time in the 100-year history of IiAS that the election for the post of President has been held through ballot. For the chairmanship for 2025-28, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had nominated Secretary DARPG Shri V Srinivas in November 2024.
India, South Africa, Austria and Bahrain submitted nominations. South Africa withdrew its nomination in favour of India in May 2025 and the final election was held between India and Austria. India won the presidency of the International Institute of Administrative Sciences (IIAS) by defeating Austria in the elections held on June 3, 2025. India got 61.7% of the votes. India got 87 votes out of a total of 141 and Austria got 54 votes. The IIAS is a global non-profit organisation, an association of 31 member countries, 20 national sections and 15 academic research centres.
Its major member countries are – India, Japan, China, Germany, Italy, Korea, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Switzerland, Mexico, Spain, Qatar, Morocco, Indonesia etc. Although the IIAS is not a formally affiliated body of the United Nations, it jointly collaborates on scientific research on public administration. India has been a member country of the IIAS since 1998, represented by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances.
• 'Umeed' Central Portal - Union Minister for Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju launched the Umeed Central Portal on June 6, 2025 in New Delhi. Developed by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, the portal was formally inaugurated in the presence of Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Shri George Kurien.
The Central Government launched the central portal UMEED (Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development) to digitise the process of registration of Waqf properties across India under the Waqf Amendment Act. All information related to Waqf properties will have to be uploaded on this portal within six months of its launch. After this, the competent officer of the district or Waqf Board will verify the information and then a 17 digit unique ID will be issued.
• First woman ADC to the President of India - Lieutenant Commander Yashasvi Solanki became the first woman officer to be appointed Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the President of India. Yashasvi Solanki originally hails from Charkhi Dadri district of Haryana. Yashasvi Solanki joined the Indian Navy in 2012. She has served under Short Service Commission in the Logistics branch. The President usually has five ADCs — three from the Army, and one each from the Navy and the Air Force but none of them has been a woman officer so far. The ADC to the President of India plays a vital role in ensuring smooth coordination and communication between the President and various organs of the Government and the military establishment.
• Union Territory of Ladakh Reservation (Amendment) Regulation, 2025- The Union Territory of Ladakh Reservation (Amendment) Regulation, 2025 was notified after President Draupadi Murmu's assent on June 3, 2025. It amends Section 23 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004. The Union Territory of Ladakh Reservation (Amendment) Regulations, 2025 increases the limit of reservation in government jobs and educational institutions in Ladakh from 50% to 85%.
According to the amendment, “The total percentage of reservation, except reservation for economically weaker sections (EWS), shall not exceed 85 per cent in any case.” This includes 80 percent reservation for Scheduled Tribes (ST), 04 percent for Areas Adjacent to the Line of Control (ALC), 01 percent for Scheduled Castes (SC). A separate 10% reservation is provided for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). The aim of this amendment is to increase employment and education opportunities for the local people of Ladakh.
Under Section 3A of the amended regulation, a person will be considered a resident of Ladakh only if he has been living here for 15 years. Apart from this, those who study here for seven years and pass 10th and 12th exams will also be eligible for domicile. Children of central government employees, employees working in banks and central universities who have served in Ladakh for at least 10 years will also be eligible for domicile.
People from other states need to be permanent residents of Ladakh for 15 years to get domicile and employment there. Its cutoff year is 2019. In such a situation, residents of other states will get their first domicile in the year 2034. The total population of Ladakh according to the 2011 census was 2,74, 289, and about 80% of them are Scheduled Tribes.
• Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (Amendment) Regulation Rules, 2025 - President Draupadi Murmu gave assent to the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (Amendment) Regulation Rules, 2025. This regulation rule amends the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council Act, 1997. According to this amendment, one-third of the seats in the Hill Council will be reserved for women . One-third of the seats will be reserved for women in both Leh and Kargil Hill Councils.
• Ladakh Official Language Regulation, 2025 - President Draupadi Murmu has promulgated the Ladakh Official Language Regulation 2025 and the regulation has come into force in the entire Union Territory. With an aim to strengthen regional identity and inclusive governance, the Central government has officially recognised five languages- Hindi, Urdu, Bhoti, Purgi and English as official languages of the Union Territory of Ladakh. Before the date of commencement of this Regulation, the English language has been used as the official language for government purposes.
• National Workshop on Strategies to Combat Desertification and Drought, 2025 - Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav in presence of Union Minister for Culture and Tourism , Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat inaugurated a National Workshop on “Strategies to Combat Desertification and Drought” at the Arid Forest Research Institute, Jodhpur on the occasion of World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought on June 17, 2025. The workshop was organised in line with the 2025 global theme “Restore Land, Unlock Opportunities”.
• Annual Conference of Relief Commissioners and State Disaster Response Forces, 2025- The two-day Annual Conference of Relief Commissioners and State Disaster Response Forces (SDRFs) of States and Union Territories, organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs, concluded in New Delhi on June 16-17, 2025. Dr PK Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister chaired the valedictory session.
• First Russian-Indian Youth Forum 2025 - The First Russian-Indian Youth Forum 2025 was held on June 17-18 at the Russian House in New Delhi. The event was organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Russia in India and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. This forum is a platform for exchange of views between Russian and Indian youth and expert communities dedicated to Youth Day and 100th anniversary of India-Russia diplomacy. It aimed to strengthen cooperation between the youth of the two countries and empower youth leadership at global forums.
• 2.35 lakh houses approved under PMAY-Urban 2.0 – The third meeting of the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) was held on June 18, 2025 under the Chairmanship of Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). In this meeting, construction of 2.35 lakh houses has been approved under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0). A total of 2,34,864 houses have been sanctioned in nine states – Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. PMAY-U 2.0 is being implemented through four verticals—Beneficiary-led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH) and Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS).
The houses approved in the CSMC meeting are under the BLC and AHP verticals of the scheme. Till now the total number of houses sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0 is 7,09,979. Of the houses sanctioned under PMAY-U 2.0, over 1.25 lakh houses have been sanctioned in the name of women, including single women and widows. Additionally, 44 houses have been allotted to transgender persons. To further promote social equity, 42,400 houses for Scheduled Castes (SC), 17,574 houses for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and 1,13,414 houses for Other Backward Classes (OBC) have been sanctioned.
Under PMAY-U 2.0, 1 crore families will be provided financial assistance to build or purchase pucca houses in urban areas. Individuals/families anywhere in the country who do not have a pucca house are eligible to purchase or construct a house under PMAY-U 2.0. Central assistance up to Rs 2.50 lakh is provided for each dwelling unit.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) Under PMAY-U, launched in June 2015 , more than 93.19 lakh houses have already been constructed. For AHP and BLC verticals, families with annual income up to Rs 3 lakh will be eligible to avail the scheme, for Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS) vertical, families with income up to Rs 9 lakh will be eligible. Aadhaar or Aadhaar Virtual ID is mandatory for all beneficiaries.
• MahaAgri-AI Policy, 2025-29 - On June 17, 2025, the Maharashtra Cabinet approved the Agriculture-Artificial Intelligence Policy MahaAgri-AI 2025-29 for the state . Its budget is Rs 500 crore. It aims to bring significant transformational changes in the agriculture sector by using Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, Drones, Robotics and Predictive Analytics. It promotes precision farming, weather forecasting and farmer advisories
This is India’s first state-level AI agriculture policy, specifically designed to help farmers. The biggest benefit of this policy is that now farmers will be able to get accurate information on their mobile phones. For example, when to sow, how much water to give, which fertilizer to use, all this information will be automatically received. Real-time alerts will be sent about market prices and best places to sell produce.
There will be advance warning about pests or diseases to prevent losses. Farmers will now be able to identify their produce through QR code, which will increase the demand in international markets. This policy will be implemented in phases from 2025 to 2029. In the first phase, digital platforms will be developed, in the second phase AI pilot projects will begin and in the final phase it will be implemented across the state.
• Formation of Chhattisgarh Tiger Foundation Society – The Chhattisgarh government decided to form a Tiger Foundation Society to tackle the problem of declining tiger population in the state and to conserve them. In the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, it was decided to form 'Chhattisgarh Tiger Foundation Society'. This society will work under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. This institution (society) will be self-financed, so there will be no additional burden on the government treasury. It will raise funds from individuals and institutions.
• Approval for construction of Tura Bypass in Meghalaya - The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has sanctioned Rs 951.27 crore for the construction of 29.03 km long bypass at Tura in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya. This bypass will connect National Highway-127B to National Highway-217. National Highway-217, located on the international border with Bangladesh, connects Guwahati to Dalu.
The bypass will start from Sanchoonggre village on National Highway-127B and end at Jenggitchagre village on National Highway-217. The route will be constructed as a two-lane paved road with sidewalks. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion in Tura city, the district headquarters, and enhance road safety in urban areas by diverting traffic away from densely populated areas.
• Inauguration of Garuda Aerospace’s Agri-Drone Indigenisation Facility – On June 14, 2025, Union Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan inaugurated Garuda Aerospace’s new Agri-Drone Indigenisation Facility in Chennai. To promote indigenous drone technology, Garuda Aerospace has set up an agri-drone indigenisation facility near Chennai.The advanced centre aims to locally design and manufacture high-end unmanned aerial systems (UAS), in line with the Centre's Atmanirbhar Bharat mission. Located at Thalambur near the city and spread over 35,000 sq ft, the new unit is the first of its kind in the country. It will produce 7 drone subsystems and over 33 different parts.
• India's largest automobile Gati Shakti multi-modal cargo terminal - On June 17, 2025, the country's largest automobile Gati Shakti multi-modal cargo terminal was inaugurated at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, Manesar, Haryana. It was inaugurated by Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw. Every year, 4.5 lakh cars will be sent out through goods trains from the terminal built on 45 acres. The cost of this project is Rs 1 lakh 17 thousand 91 million. In this, Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited has 55.4 percent share, HSIDC has 19 percent share and Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority has five percent share.
• Plane Crash in Ahmedabad – On June 12, 2025, Air India flight number AI-171 from Ahmedabad, Gujarat to London crashed. The aircraft took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai International Airport in Ahmedabad to Gatwick Airport in London, England. This plane crashed into the mess of the hostel of BJ Medical College located in Meghani Nagar within a few minutes of takeoff . Many medical students also died in this accident. There were a total of 242 people on board the plane, including passengers and crew. 241 people have been confirmed dead in this accident. A passenger named Ramesh Vishwas Kumar survived safely in this accident. Former Gujarat Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Vijay Rupani is also among the dead.The crashed plane was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.
• CROPIC Initiative – Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is planning to launch CROPIC, a study to collect crop information using field photographs and Artificial Intelligence (AI) based models .Cropic means real-time observation and photo collection of crops. According to the plan, photographs will be taken four to five times during the crop cycle and the images will be analysed to assess their health and possible mid-season damage.
• 1st State and Union Territory Participation Workshop, 2025 – The 1st State and Union Territory Participation Workshop, 2025 under National One Health Mission (NHOM) was held on 9th June 2025 in New Delhi. This workshop was organized under the chairmanship of Professor Ajay Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India.
• First Meeting of the International Big Cat Alliance, 2025 – The first meeting of the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) was held on June 16, 2025 in New Delhi. It was chaired by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav.
• Official Visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Cyprus - Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on an official visit to Cyprus from 15 to 16 June 2025 at the invitation of President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides. This is Prime Minister Modi's first visit to Cyprus and the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in two decades. He was received by Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides at the Larnaca International Airport. PM Modi and President Christodoulides held talks in the capital Nicosia and addressed business leaders in Limassol. President Christodoulides conferred the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III on Prime Minister Modi, the highest honour given by Cyprus to foreign heads of state or government.
• Focus Group - AI Native Networking (AINN) Build-a-thon 2025 - The 3rd meeting of the ITU-T Focus Group on Artificial Intelligence for Telecommunication Networks (FG-AINN) was held from 11 to 12 June 2025 in New Delhi. The event was jointly organised by Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC), the technical arm of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Government of India, and ITU. It aimed to promote the development of global standards in AI-native networking. The top three awards were given to Team Sliceminds (1st Place), Team SNR (2nd Place) and Team NovirusTatched (3rd Place).
• Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Meeting 2025 – “Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Meeting 2025” was held on June 13, 2025 at Indore, Madhya Pradesh.The meeting was chaired by Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh. It aims to enhance aquaculture infrastructure, promote fish production and create livelihood opportunities in inland areas.
• Badvel-Nellore Highway - The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the 108 km long four-lane Badvel-Nellore Corridor on National Highway 67. The project will cost around ₹3,653 crore. This road will be constructed under the Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Transfer mode.
The Badvel–Nellore Corridor will connect important nodes of the three industrial corridors of Andhra Pradesh - Kopparthi on the Visakhapatnam–Chennai Industrial Corridor, Orvakal on the Hyderabad–Bengaluru Industrial Corridor , and Krishnapatnam on the Chennai–Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC). The Badvel–Nellore Corridor starts from Gopavaram village on existing National Highway NH-67 in YSR Kadapa district and terminates at Krishnapatnam Port Junction on NH-16 (Chennai–Kolkata) in YSR Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh. It will also provide strategic connectivity to Krishnapatnam Port.
The proposed corridor will reduce the travel distance to Krishnapatnam Port by 33.9 km compared to the existing Badvel-Nellore road from 142 km to 108.13 km. This 108.134 km long project will generate approximately 20 lakh man-days of direct employment and 23 lakh man-days of indirect employment.
• India's first private helicopter assembly line- India's first private helicopter assembly line will be set up by European aviation major Airbus and Tata Advanced Systems (TASL), the aerospace arm of Tata Group, in Kolar, Karnataka. It is expected to be operational by 2026. It aims to build self-reliance in the aerospace industry. The plant will initially manufacture 10 H125 civil helicopters every year.This will be Airbus' fourth H125 helicopter assembly plant in the world. Earlier such plants have been set up in France, America and Brazil.
• CERT-In Dialogue, 2025 – CERT-In Dialogue, 2025 was a three-day national annual conference held at Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu. The theme of this conference was "Cybersecurity Audits and Regulatory Expectations: Bridging the Gap". It was organised by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) in collaboration with SkillsDA. It was aimed to strengthen and expand India's cyber security audit eco-system.
• Semiconductor Unit in Uttar Pradesh - The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved setting up of a semiconductor unit in Uttar Pradesh under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM). This will attract an investment of Rs 3,700 crore. This unit is a joint venture of HCL and Foxconn. Both together will set up the plant near Jewar airport in Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area. The plant is designed for 20,000 wafers per month and the designed output capacity is 36 million units per month.
This plant will manufacture display driver chips for mobile phones, laptops, automobiles, PCs and other display devices. This will be the sixth semiconductor unit being set up in India. Before this, five semiconductor units are in advanced stage of construction.
• First state in India to achieve total literacy – Mizoram Chief Minister Shri Lalduhoma officially declared Mizoram as a fully literate state. With this achievement, Mizoram has become the first state in India to achieve complete literacy.
• Prime Minister inaugurates 103 AMRUT Stations - PM Narendra Modi through video conference from Bikaner, Rajasthan. Through this, 103 redeveloped railway stations were inaugurated in 86 districts of 18 states/union territories of the country. These stations have been developed at a cost of more than Rs 1,100 crore. It is part of the Amrut Bharat Station Yojana, which aims to promote the modernization of Indian Railways.
These include major and minor stations of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.The scheme aims to transform over 1,300 railway stations across the country into modern transport hubs with advanced passenger amenities and regional architectural integration.
• 24th Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Council of Ministers (COM) Meeting, 2025 – The 24th Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) Council of Ministers (COM) Meeting, 2025 was held virtually, hosted by IORA Chair Sri Lanka. Its theme was “Sustainable Indian Ocean for Future Generations”. P. Kumaran, Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs led the Indian delegation at the 24th meeting of the IORA COM.
India is currently a Vice President of IORA and a member of the Troika. India will hold the chairmanship of IORA from 2025-2027. The 24th COM meeting was attended by Ministers and high-level representatives from all 22 IORA Member States and 12 Dialogue Partners of IORA. During the meeting, member countries discussed strengthening of IORA, issues of regional interests and adopted the 'Colombo Communiqué'.
• Formation of Seven All-Party Delegations under Operation Sindoor - As a significant diplomatic initiative aimed at the success of ‘Operation Sindoor’ and to expose Pakistan on the issue of terrorism, India has formed seven all-party delegations to present its stand at global forums.These delegations will visit key partner countries, including members of the UN Security Council and the European Union.The all-party delegation going abroad from India will start its tour from May 22. This round of the delegation's visit will continue till June 5.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju is coordinating these efforts. Seven groups comprising 59 MPs will visit a total of 32 countries. Each delegation will also have a retired diplomat. The prominent leaders leading the delegations are: Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP MP), Baijayant Panda (BJP MP), Shashi Tharoor (Congress MP), Sanjay Jha (JDU MP), Kanimozhi (DMK MP), Supriya Sule (NCP - Sharad Pawar faction MP), Shrikant Shinde (Shiv Sena MP). Four leaders in the all-party delegation are from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), while three come from the opposition India Alliance.
The first group, led by BJP MP Baijayant Panda, will visit Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Algeria. The delegation will include senior leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi.
The second group, led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, will visit the UK, France, Germany, the European Union, Italy and Denmark. The delegation includes Congress MP Dr Amar Singh, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi and former Union minister MJ Akbar.
The third delegation, led by JDU MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, will visit Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan and Singapore. The delegation will include Trinamool Congress' Yusuf Pathan, CPI(M)'s John Brittas and Congress leader Salman Khurshid.
The fourth group, led by Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Eknath Shinde, will visit the UAE, Liberia, Congo and Sierra Leone. BJP's Bansuri Swaraj, BJD's Sasmit Patra, IUML MP E T Mohammed Basheer and former Union minister SS Ahluwalia will also be part of the delegation.
The fifth delegation, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, will visit the US, Panama, Guyana, Brazil and Colombia. JMM MP Sarfaraz Ahmed, LJP MP Shambhavi, TDP MP GM Harish Balayogi and Shiv Sena MP Murali Deora are part of the delegation.
The sixth delegation led by DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi will visit Spain, Greece, Slovenia, Latvia and Russia. It includes National Conference MP Mian Altaf Ahmed, Samajwadi Party MP Rajiv Rai and RJD MP Prem Chand Gupta.
The seventh group will be led by NCP (SCP) MP Supriya Sule , who will visit Egypt, Qatar, Ethiopia and South Africa. The delegation will also include BJP's Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Anurag Singh Thakur, former Union minister V Muraleedharan as well as Congress MP Manish Tewari.
• 63rd Meeting of Namami Gange Mission – As a concrete and holistic initiative towards the rejuvenation of Ganga and its tributaries, the 63rd Executive Committee Meeting of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) was held on May 21, 2025, in New Delhi. The main theme of the meeting was– Sustainability and Innovation.During the meeting, a sewage management project in Agra, Uttar P radesh with a total cost of ₹126.41 crore was approved. This entire scheme will be implemented on the 'Design-Build-Operate-Transfer' model, which means that the agency building it will run it for a few years and then hand it over to the government.
To promote in-depth understanding of environmental flows, the Committee approved two major projects: “Environmental Flow Assessment of Kosi, Gandak and Mahananda Rivers” costing about Rs. 6 crore and “Environmental Flow Assessment in Ghaghra and Gomti River Basins” estimated to cost about Rs. 8 crore. Experts will try to find out through drones and site surveys how the water flow in these rivers remains throughout the year and where improvements are needed. It will also be known what effect climate change and human intervention is having on these rivers. Both these projects will pave the way for development of sustainable and favourable flow system in the rivers in the next three years .
To ensure cleanliness in every household, the committee has also given the green signal to the domestic water purification scheme based on the Japanese technology 'Johkaso'. With this technology, the dirty water coming out of homes or small areas can be cleaned there itself. This technology will especially help in those areas where there are no sewage lines. The meeting approved the conservation and management project of Ramsar site 'Asan Wetland' in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand with an allocation of Rs 2.47 crore for the next two years . The initiative aims to revive the biodiversity and ecological health of the wetland.
• 10th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog, 2025 – Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi chaired the 10th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi on May 24, 2025. The theme of this year is “Developed States for Developed India @ 2047” with the main objective of making India a developed nation by focusing on the states.The 10th Governing Council meeting was attended by Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors of States and Union Territories, Union Ministers and Vice Chairman, Members and CEO of NITI Aayog.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked the states to develop at least one tourist destination per state as per global standards and by providing all the facilities and infrastructure. Emphasising on 'One State: One Global Destination', the Prime Minister said that this would also lead to development of neighbouring cities as tourist destinations.
• Literary Conference: How Much Has Literature Changed? - Rashtrapati Bhavan, in collaboration with Sahitya Akademi, Ministry of Culture organized a Literary Conference: How Much Has Literature Changed? on May 29 and 30 , 2025 at Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre, New Delhi. The conference was inaugurated by President Smt. Draupadi Murmu on May 29, 2025. Culture and Tourism Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and litterateurs from across the country attended the conference.
The two-day conference organised various sessions on different themes such as Kavi Sammelan – Sidha Dil Se, Feminist Literature of India: In Search of New Grounds, Change in Literature versus Literature of Change, and New Directions of Indian Literature in Global Perspective. The conference was concluded with the saga of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar .
• Fourth India-Central Asia Dialogue, 2025 – The Fourth India-Central Asia Dialogue was held on 6 June 2025 in New Delhi under the Chairmanship of the External Affairs Minister of India. The meeting was attended by the Foreign Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
• State Visit of the President of Paraguay to India - At the invitation of the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi, the President of Paraguay, His Excellency Santiago Pena Palacios is on a three-day State visit to India from 2 June to 4 June 2025. President of Paraguay Santiago Pena Palacios arrived in New Delhi on his first state visit to India and was given a ceremonial welcome with a Guard of Honour at Palam Air Force Station. This is President Santiago's first visit to India and the second visit by a President of Paraguay.
After Delhi, he went to Mumbai on June 4. Here he interacted with state leaders, businessmen, innovators, startups and prominent people from the technology sector. He made this visit to commemorate the 64th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It is noteworthy that India and Paraguay established diplomatic relations on 13 September 1961.
• Lavender Festival, 2025 - The 3rd Lavender Festival, 2025 was held on June 1-2, 2025 at Bhaderwah town in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. It was organised by CSIR Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu. Union Minister Jitendra Singh inaugurated the two-day Lavender Festival 2025.
• IATA 81st Annual General Meeting & World Air Transport Summit, 2025 - The 81st Annual General Meeting & World Air Transport Summit of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) was held on 1-3 June 2025 in New Delhi, hosted by IndiGo. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the event. IATA's last Annual General Meeting was held 42 years ago in 1983. This is the third time that the IATA Annual General Meeting was held in Delhi. Earlier it was held in India in 1958 and 1983.
• Jammu and Kashmir's first cherry cargo train- The first parcel train carrying 24 tonnes of cherries from Katra station in Jammu and Kashmir left for Bandra Terminal, Mumbai on May 31, 2025. This train will reach Mumbai in 30 hours. Earlier this train was scheduled to leave on June 3, but it was started earlier so that more consignments of cherries could be sent from Katra and Jammu stations. For the first time, Jammu Railway Division of Northern Railway has attached Parcel Van coach in train no. 12472 from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Bandra Terminus.
• India GEN Summit, 2025 – India GEN Summit, 2025 was held in New Delhi. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh launched “Bharat Gen”, the country’s first indigenously developed, Government funded, Artificial Intelligence based Multimodal Large Language Model for Indian Languages. “India Gen Summit” is the country's largest Generative AI LLM summit and hackathon. BharatGen aims to revolutionise the development of AI in the linguistic and cultural diversity of the country.
• India's first variable speed pumped storage plant - India's first variable speed pumped storage plant is installed at Tehri, Uttarakhand. It is constructed by THDC India Limited (THDCIL). It is a 1000 MW project, consisting of 4 units of 250 MW each. The main objective of this project is to enhance grid stability and support the integration of renewable energy sources. Once the project is fully commissioned, the Tehri Hydroelectric Complex will become India's largest hydropower plant with a generation capacity of 2.4 GW.
• Homestay, Bed and Breakfast Policy, 2025 of Uttar Pradesh Government- The Uttar Pradesh government approved the Homestay and Bed and Breakfast (B&B) Policy, 2025 in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. It aims to promote tourism across the state, enhance service standards and generate employment through better accommodation options. Under this, now tourists will be able to avail cheap facility of home stay at religious and tourist places of the state.
This will provide rooms at affordable rates for tourists to stay and employment to the local people. It has made it mandatory for homestays and bed and breakfasts to obtain no objection certificates (NOC) from local bodies and will provide financial incentives and grants to approved units. As per the provision of this policy, homestay units with up to 6 rooms and 12 beds will be recognized.
• 13th Pension Adalat, 2025 – Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh launched the 13th Pension Adalat at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on June 4, 2025. The subject matter of the Pension Court is 'Family Pension'. It aims to resolve 417 family pension related complaints related to 17 departments and ministries.
• IICA's first regional campus in the North East - The Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has acquired five acres of land in New Shillong Township, Meghalaya for setting up its first regional campus in the North East. Supported by an investment of ₹100.95 crore under the Prime Minister's Initiative for Development of North Eastern Region (PM-DevINE), this upcoming campus will serve as a strategic centre for training, research and policy consultancy in corporate governance and allied areas.
• Inauguration of New Terminal of Patna Airport - Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal building at Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport, Patna on May 29, 2025. It has been developed at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore. This airport is spread over 65,150 square metres. It is designed to handle 3,000 passengers during peak hours and 10 million passengers annually.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone of a new civil enclave at the Bihta Air Force Station, about 35 km from Patna. At a project cost of Rs 1,413 crore, the Bihta terminal will spread over 68,000 sqm and serve 50 lakh passengers annually.
• Inauguration of Satna and Datia Airports – On May 31, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the Satna and Datia airports in Madhya Pradesh, a significant step towards enhancing regional connectivity in Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand regions.
• Haryana's first modern jail training academy - Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini inaugurated the state's first state-of-the-art modern jail training academy in Karnal. This modern jail training academy has been built on 6.54 acres of land at a cost of Rs 30.29 crore.
• Chhattisgarh's first Aqua Park- The state's first 'Aqua Park' will be built in Hasdeo Bango submergence reservoir in Korba district of Chhattisgarh. An amount of more than ₹37.10 crore has been sanctioned by the Central Government for this project under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. This park will be developed in the reservoir area spread over hundreds of acres of Etama Nagar and Satrenga area.
• Konkan Railway merged with Indian Railways- Maharashtra Government officially approved the long-pending merger of Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) with Indian Railways. Earlier, the governments of Karnataka, Goa and Kerala have also approved this merger. It aims to resolve Konkan Railway's financial challenges, improve operational efficiency, and encourage infrastructure development. Maharashtra has approved the merger on two conditions - the name Konkan Railway will be retained after the merger and the Indian Railways will reimburse the Maharashtra government the amount of over Rs 394 crore paid to form Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) in 1990. Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) is a joint venture in which the Ministry of Railways holds 51% stake, while the remaining stake is held by Maharashtra (22%), Karnataka (15%), and Goa and Kerala (6% each).
• American Axle and Dawleys Group deal approved - The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the proposed acquisition of 100% shareholding of Dawleys Group PLC by American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. Under this proposal, American Axel will buy the entire share capital of Dowlais Group and will have full control over the company. This acquisition will further strengthen the global operations of both companies. It is expected to improve technological innovation, production capacity and quality of products. Especially, the supply chain of drive transmission and metal parts in the automobile sector will get a new boost. American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. is a major global company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Dowlais Group PLC is a British company listed on the London Stock Exchange.
• Madhya Pradesh Metropolitan Region Planning and Development Act, 2025 - The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet approved the Madhya Pradesh Metropolitan Region Planning and Development Act 2025. This bill will pave the way for the establishment of metropolitan authorities in Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior and Ujjain. In the first phase, Bhopal and Indore will be developed as full-fledged metropolitan regions.
The Bhopal Metropolitan Region will be spread over 9,600 sq km, covering the districts of Bhopal, Sehore, Raisen, Vidisha and Rajgarh and Biaora. The Indore Metropolitan Region will be spread over around 10,000 sq km and will include Indore, Dewas, Ujjain, Dhar and Shajapur. There will be a Metropolitan Planning Committee (MPC) and a Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MRDA) to guide and manage planning and development in both regions.
• India's first regional language AI news anchor- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched India's first regional language AI news anchor 'ANKITA' (ANKITA – Assam's New-age Knowledge-based Information Technology Anchor). 'Ankita' presents news in Assamese language. In the first presentation, 'Ankita' conveyed the decisions of the Assam Cabinet meeting to the public. Earlier, the state had also deployed an AI teacher named 'Iris' in a school in Guwahati in the year 2024.
• Know Your Digipin’ and Know Your Pin Code Web Portals- Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications has launched two web portals namely “Know Your Digipin” and “Know Your Pin Code”. These portals are an important step towards modernizing India's addressing system and geospatial governance. These portals aim to improve digital governance and delivery of public services. This portal is a new geospatial system that divides India into a 4x4 metre grid. Each grid is given a unique 10-letter alphanumeric code, called a digipin. Digipin provides precise geographic coordinates and can be used for accurate service delivery, emergency response, and other digital services. The "Know your PIN code" portal is based on the existing PIN code system and helps users to find their PIN codes. This portal is available on the website of India Post. Users can search for their pin code using their address or location.
• Deposit Refund Scheme, 2025- The Himachal Pradesh Government headed by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has approved the 'Deposit Refund Scheme 2025'. Under this, when consumers buy non-biodegradable packaging like plastic or glass, they will have to pay an additional deposit amount along with the price. This amount will be refunded when consumers return the empty packets. This scheme will be monitored through QR code. The scheme will launch on a pilot basis and will cover plastic bottles, glass bottles, aluminium cans, multilayer packaging, etc. This will help in solving the problem of waste management and pollution.
• Kheer Bhawani Mela- The annual Kheer Bhawani Mela was celebrated with great traditional fervour and gaiety at the holy temple of Mata Ragnya Devi at Tulmulla in Ganderbal District of Jammu and Kashmir. This fair is one of the biggest religious events of the Kashmiri Pandit community. Every year on the auspicious occasion of Jyeshtha Ashtami, Kashmiri Pandits come to visit Mata Ragnya Devi Temple. This is a temple of Goddess Durga. In this temple of Goddess Durga, the Goddess is worshipped in the form of Maa Ragini.
• 'Ayush Nivesh Sarathi' Portal – Government of India launched the 'Ayush Nivesh Sarathi' Portal during the Ayush Stakeholders and Industry Conclave at Vanijya Bhavan, New Delhi. The portal aims to streamline and promote investments in India's traditional medicine and healthcare sector, thereby establishing India as a global hub for Ayurveda, Yoga and other indigenous health practices. 'Ayush Nivesh Sarathi' has been launched by Invest India and Ministry of AYUSH (Government of India).
• Reservation to former Agniveers in Uttar Pradesh - On June 3, 2025, the Uttar Pradesh government approved the proposal to provide 20% reservation to former Agniveers for recruitment to various posts in Uttar Pradesh Police. This horizontal reservation will be applicable in direct recruitment to the posts of police constable, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), mounted constable and fireman. The main objective of this decision is to ensure meaningful post-service employment opportunities for Agniveers who complete their four-year tenure under the Agneepath Scheme. This reservation will be applicable to all categories – General, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and OBC (Other Backward Classes) – in their respective groups.
• Poson Poya Festival - Poson Poya Festival was celebrated in Sri Lanka on June 10, 2025. This festival is celebrated to commemorate the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka about two thousand years ago.
• India's first mobile-based e-voting system - Bihar has become the first state in the country to introduce e-voting facility through mobile app during the local body elections on June 28, 2025. Bibha Kumari, a woman from Pakridyal in East Champaran district, became the first person in the country to cast her vote through a mobile phone during the local body elections."Voting began at 7 am and continued till 5 pm. Voters could cast their votes from their homes till 1 pm for e-voting.
State Election Commissioner Deepak Prasad said that 70.20 percent of eligible voters used the e-voting system, while 54.63 percent exercised their franchise by visiting polling stations. Mobile phone-based e-voting was conducted in municipal elections in Bihar using the E-SECBHR app developed by C-DAC. The introduction of e-voting is aimed at increasing voting percentage and making the process more inclusive. This facility is available for those who are unable to go to the polling station and cast their vote. Senior citizens, disabled, pregnant women can avail this option.
• Prime Minister's official visit to Croatia - Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Croatia on June 18, 2025. This is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister. Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic welcomed Prime Minister Modi at the airport.

• Global Peace Index, 2025 – Global Peace Index, 2025 was released by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) on June 18, 2025. The index was first launched in 2007. This is the 19th edition of the index. The report is the world’s leading measure of peacefulness, assessing 163 countries covering 99.7% of the global population. The Global Peace Index evaluates countries based on 23 qualitative and quantitative indicators in three key areas: level of societal safety and security, extent of ongoing domestic and international conflict, degree of militarization. The lower a country's score, the more peaceful it is considered to be.
Iceland has topped the list as the most peaceful country in the world in the year 2025. Iceland has maintained this ranking since 2008. Iceland has remained the most peaceful country for the 18th consecutive year. Whereas Russia was ranked the least peaceful country at 163rd place. India is ranked 115th (score- 2.229) in the Global Peace Index, 2025, which is an improvement of 0.58 percent in the level of peacefulness compared to last year. India was ranked 116th in the year 2024. The top 5 most peaceful countries in the world in the Global Peace Index 2025 are (1) Iceland (1.095), (2) Ireland (1.260), (3) New Zealand (1.282), (4) Austria (1.294), (5) Switzerland (1.294).
The top 5 least peaceful countries in the world in the Global Peace Index 2025 are Russia 163rd (3.441), Ukraine 162nd (3.434), Sudan 161st (3.323), Democratic Republic of the Congo 160th (3.292), Yemen 159th (3.262). Germany is ranked 20th, Britain is ranked 30th (up two places from last year), France is ranked 74th and the US is ranked 128th. Among India's neighboring countries, Bhutan is 21st, Nepal 76th, Sri Lanka 97th, China 98th, Bangladesh 123rd, Pakistan is at 144th position and Afghanistan is at 158th position.
Global peace is projected to decline by 0.36% in 2025, the largest drop since World War II. The Global Peace Index (GPI) is a report produced by the Australia-based non-governmental organisation Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) that measures the relative state of peacefulness of nations and territories.
• 10th BRICS Partner Country – On June 13, 2025, Vietnam will officially become the 10th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) partner country. The Brazilian Foreign Ministry made an official announcement in this regard. The Partner Country category was established at the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan (Russia) in October 2024. Vietnam has become the tenth BRICS partner country along with Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda and Uzbekistan.
• Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development, 2025 - The United Nations Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) will be held in Seville , Spain from 30 June to 3 July. The conference will discuss new and emerging issues, the urgent need for the full implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, and support for reform of the international financial architecture. FfD4 will assess progress in the implementation of the Monterrey Consensus, the Doha Declaration and the Addis Ababa Agenda.
• 5 new non-permanent members of UN Security Council - The United Nations General Assembly elected five non-permanent members to the Security Council (UNSC) for the term 2026-2027. The 5 new temporary member countries elected include Bahrain, Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Latvia and Liberia. The new members will serve as non-permanent UNSC members from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2027.
The tenure of temporary member countries is 2 years. The new members will replace Algeria, Guyana, the Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone and Slovenia, whose terms expire in December 2025.Apart from the five temporary countries included in the Council, other temporary countries are Denmark, Greece, Pakistan, Panama, Somalia.Before this, Colombia has been a temporary member seven times, DRC twice and Bahrain and Liberia once each.
Latvia will serve as a non-permanent member for the first time.
In elections held according to geographical distribution, two seats are allocated to the African Group, one to the Asia-Pacific Group, one to the Latin American and Caribbean Group, and one to the Eastern European Group. Candidates must receive a two-thirds majority of the vote, which is equivalent to 129 votes out of the 193-member General Assembly. The Security Council has 15 member countries; 5 permanent and 10 temporary members. The five permanent member countries are China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
• World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition 2025 – World Hydrogen Summit & Exhibition 2025 was held in Noterdam, the Netherlands. Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, represented India.
• Shangri-La Dialogue, 2025 – The 22nd edition of the Shangri-La Dialogue, organised annually by the International Institute for Strategic Studies, was held in Singapore from May 30 to June 1, 2025. The dialogue is Asia's premier defence and security conference. India was represented at the conference by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of India Anil Chauhan. No Indian government official attended the 21st edition of the Shangri-La Dialogue to be held in 2024.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first Indian Prime Minister to participate in this dialogue in 2018. The first Shangri-La Dialogue was held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore in 2002. The hotel has since become the permanent venue for the Shangri-La Dialogue. British strategist Sir John Chipman is credited with initiating the Shangri-La talks.
• 67th Governing Body Meeting of Asian Productivity Organization, 2025 - The 67th Governing Body Meeting of the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) was held in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2025. During this meeting, India formally took over its presidency for the term 2025-26. • 15th BRICS Trade Ministers' Meeting, 2025 – 15th BRICS Trade Ministers' Meeting, 2025 held in Brazil. This meeting is being held under the chairmanship of Brazil. Its theme was– “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance”.
• BRICS Ministers of Culture Meeting, 2025 – BRICS Ministers of Culture Meeting, 2025 was held in Brasilia (Brazil). In this, Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat led the Indian delegation.
• First US state to impose 'Green Fee' on tourists - Hawaii is the first US state to impose "Green Fee" on tourists. In May 2026, Hawaii implements this new climate impact fee, which aims to provide financial support for environmental protection and climate adaptation efforts. This fee has been imposed by increasing the state's existing Transient Accommodation Tax (TAT) by 0.75%. The fee would apply to hotels, short-term rentals and cruise ships.
• 101st WTO member to formally ratify the Fisheries Subsidies Agreement - On June 2, 2025, Nicaragua ’s WTO Ambassador Rosalia Bohórquez Palacios handed over the document formally ratifying the Fisheries Subsidies Agreement to World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Once effective, Nicaragua will become the 101st Member Country to ratify the Fisheries Subsidies Agreement. The agreement aims to promote the sustainable use of marine resources and prohibit harmful fisheries subsidies.
• 46th ASEAN Summit, 2025 – The 46th ASEAN Summit 2025 was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The theme of this conference was "Inclusiveness and Sustainability". The summit was chaired by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
• 2nd Session of the International Organization for Maritime Navigation Aids, 2025 – The 2nd Session of the Council of the International Organization for Maritime Navigation Aids (IALA), 2025 was held in Nice , France in June, 2025.India participated in this session as Vice President of IALA. The Indian delegation was led by Shri T.K. Ramachandran, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
• Global Gender Gap Report, 2025 – The 19th edition of the Global Gender Gap Report, 2025 was released by the World Economic Forum (WEF) on June 11, 2025. The Global Gender Gap Index released under this report includes 148 countries.This index examines gender gaps in 4 areas-
(i) Economic participation and opportunity
(ii) Academic achievements
(iii) Health and survival
(iv) Political empowerment
This index ranges from 0 to 1. In this, 1 means complete gender equality and 0 means complete gender inequality.
India has slipped two places to 131st place out of 148 countries in the Global Gender Gap Report 2025. Its gender equality score is 64.1 per cent, the lowest in South Asia. Last year, India was ranked 129th in the list of 146 countries. India's overall gender equality score for the year 2025 is 64.4%, while the global average across all 148 countries is 68.8%.
Iceland (0.926) tops the index for the 16th consecutive year, followed by Finland (0.879), Norway (0.863), the United Kingdom (0.838) and New Zealand (0.827).
The lowest countries in the Global Gender Gap Index 2025 are Pakistan at 148th, Sudan at 147th, Chad at 146th and Iran at 145th. Bangladesh is ranked 24th, Bhutan 119th, Nepal 125th, Sri Lanka 130th and Maldives 138th.
The World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report 2025 states that there has been improvement in the economic participation, education and health of women in India, but there has been a decline in political empowerment. India's overall gender equality score has improved by 0.3 points compared to 2024. India's score in economic participation and opportunity increased by 0.9 percentage points to 40.7%. India's score in educational achievement was 97.1%, reflecting positive changes in women's share in literacy and higher education enrolment. Health and life expectancy also improved, due to better sex ratio at birth and increased healthy life expectancy. However, political empowerment declined, and women's representation in parliament fell from 14.7% to 13.8%.
• United Nations Ocean Conference 2025 - The United Nations Ocean Conference 2025 was held in Nice, France, from 9 to 13 June 2025. The conference was co-hosted by France and Costa Rica. The theme of this conference is “Accelerating action and mobilizing all stakeholders for the conservation and sustainable use of the ocean”. Union Minister of Earth Sciences (Independent Charge), Dr. Jitendra Singh led a high-level Indian delegation to the conference.
• Stockholm Conference on Electoral Integrity, 2025 – The Stockholm Conference on Electoral Integrity, 2025 is held in Stockholm (Sweden) from June 10 to 12, 2025. More than 100 delegates from about 50 countries participated in this conference. Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar participated in this conference.
• Two Indian-Americans win city council seats in Texas - In the Texas city council elections in the US, two Indian-American candidates Sanjay Singhal and Sukh Kaur won the city council elections in Sugar Land and San Antonio respectively. In Sugar Land’s District 2, retired energy executive and IIT Delhi graduate Sanjay Singhal won a decisive victory over his nearest rival, Nasir Hussain. According to unofficial results from Fort Bend County, Singhal received 2,346 votes, while Hussain got 777 votes.
Sikh-American and education reformer Sukh Kaur won a landslide victory in San Antonio to retain her council seat in District 1. Sukh Kaur defeated her opponent Patty Gibbons with 65 percent of the vote.Sukh Kaur is the first Sikh woman elected to the San Antonio City Council. While Carol McCutchen, an Indian-American, has been elected mayor of Sugar Land, Texas. She won the post by defeating William Ferguson. She will replace Joe Zimmerman. According to an unofficial count, McCutchen received 6,103 votes, while Ferguson received 5,402. Carol McCutchen is a retired reservoir engineer.
• Climber climbs Mount Everest for a record 31st time - Nepali Sherpa Kami Rita, also known as "Everest Man", has climbed Mount Everest for the 31st time. He has broken his own record of climbing the world's highest peak the most number of times. Kami Rita, 55, who was guiding a group of Indian Army officers to climb the mountain, reached a height of 8,849 metres at 4:00 am local time (23:15 GMT) on 27 May 2025. Kami Rita first climbed Mount Everest in 1994 while leading a commercial expedition.
• Mount Etna – On June 2, 2025, the Mount Etna volcano located on the island of Sicily in Italy erupted.
• Miss World 2025 - Miss World 2025 was the 72nd edition of the Miss World pageant , which will be held on 31 May 2025 in Hyderabad, India Held at Telangana Hitex Exhibition Centre. 21-year-old Opal Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand has been chosen as Miss World 2025. This is the first time in the history of the contest that Thailand has won. Miss World 2024 Kristina Pizkova (Czech Republic) crowned Suchata Chuangsri of Thailand at the conclusion of the event. In this competition, the first runner-up i.e. the second place holder was Haset Derege of Ethiopia and the second runner-up i.e. the third place holder was Aurelie Yohachim of Martinique. Nandini Gupta, representing India, failed to make it to the top 8 finalists. Nandini Gupta managed to make it to the top 20. It featured 108 contestants from across the world.
• International Year of the Woman Farmer – The United Nations General Assembly has declared the year 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer, following a resolution proposed by the United States and supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The initiative aims to highlight the vital role of women farmers in food security, nutrition and poverty alleviation and to address the challenges they face. It also aims to promote gender equality and empower women in agriculture, and emphasize the importance of rural and peasant women supporting their families and economies.

• Arunachal declares 2025-2035 as 'Decade of Hydropower' - The Cabinet headed by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu officially approved the 2025-2035 has been declared as the "Decade of Hydro Power". Its objective is to harness the state's estimated 58000 MW hydropower potential. Hydropower projects of 19 (GW) GW will be developed in the next 10 years, with an expected investment of over Rs 2 lakh crore. Arunachal Pradesh is estimated to get an annual revenue of Rs 4,525 crore from sale of free power from HEPs from 2035.
• $10 billion plan for India's urban transformation announced - Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced a $10 billion plan for India's urban transformation. The scheme aims to help the country achieve the goals of developed India by 2047. The announcement was made during the three-day visit of ADB President Masato Kanda to India.
• New member country of New Development Bank (NDB) – In May, 2025, Algeria became the new member country of the New Development Bank (NDB) established by the BRICS countries. With this, the total number of members of the New Development Bank (NDB) has increased to 9. The New Development Bank (NDB) was established in the year 2015 by the BRICS countries Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Egypt joined as new members in February 2023, the United Arab Emirates in October 2021, and Bangladesh in September 2021. The New Development Bank (NDB) aims to mobilize resources for infrastructure and sustainable development projects in BRICS and other developing countries.
• Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI) – Department of Telecommunications has introduced Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI) to prevent cyber crime and financial frauds. It is a multi-dimensional tool developed under the Digital Intelligence Platform. Through this, cyber security and verification checks will be accelerated. Those numbers which are being used in cyber crime or financial fraud can be identified immediately. Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia shared information regarding Social Media FRI.
• 9th BRICS Industry Ministers' Meeting, 2025 – 9th BRICS Industry Ministers' Meeting, 2025 was held in Brasilia (Brazil). The theme of this meeting was "Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance". In a significant initiative, India launched the BRICS Startup Knowledge Hub under the aegis of the BRICS Startup Forum on 31 January 2025. This is the first of its kind dedicated platform for BRICS countries, aimed at enhancing cross-border cooperation and strengthening the startup ecosystem among member countries.
• Liberian container ship sank - On May 25, 2025, Liberian container ship MSC ELSA 3 (IMO No. 9123221) sank due to flooding off Kochi coast (Kerala). All 24 crew members on board the ship have been rescued safely. Out of the 24 crew members, 21 were rescued by the Indian Coast Guard and the remaining three were later rescued by the Indian Navy's INS Sujata.The ship was headed from Vizhinjam to Cochin port when it tilted 26 degrees to starboard, about 38 nautical miles south-west off the Kochi coast. The ship was loaded with 640 containers, of which 13 contained hazardous materials and 12 contained calcium carbide. It also carried 84.44 metric tonnes of diesel and 367.1 metric tonnes of furnace oil.
• Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Kharif Crops approved - The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the increase in Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 14 Kharif crops for 2025-26. The total outlay is ₹2.07 lakh crore. The highest increase was made for Nigerseed (Ramtil), which saw an increase of Rs 820 per quintal. This was followed by an increase of Rs 596 in Ragi, Rs 589 in cotton and Rs 579 in sesame.
The MSP of paddy (common variety) has been fixed at Rs 2369 per quintal, which was Rs 2300 last year. Whereas the MSP of grade-A paddy has been fixed at Rs 2389 per quintal, which was Rs 2320 last year. The MSP of Jowar (Hybrid) has been fixed at Rs 3699, which was earlier Rs 3371.The MSP of millet has been fixed at Rs 2775 per quintal. The price of ragi has been fixed at Rs 4886, maize at Rs 2400, pigeon pea (tur) at Rs 8000, moong at Rs 8768 and black gram at Rs 7800.
The highest increase in pulses is Arhar (Tur). There has been an increase in pulses. In this, the MSP has been increased by Rs 450 to Rs 8000 per quintal this year as compared to Rs 7550 per quintal last year. The MSP of moong dal has been increased by Rs 86 to Rs 8768 as compared to last year. Its minimum support price was Rs 8682 last year. The MSP of urad has been increased by Rs 400 to Rs 7800 per quintal this year compared to Rs 7400 per quintal last year.
Among oilseed crops, the MSP of groundnut has been fixed at Rs 7263, sunflower at Rs 7721, soybean at Rs 5328, sesame at Rs 9846 and nigerseed at Rs 9537 per quintal. The price of cotton (medium staple) has been fixed at Rs 7710 and that of long staple cotton at Rs 8110.
• Acquisition of Interpublic Group of Companies Inc. - The Competition Commission of India has approved the proposed acquisition of Interpublic Group of Companies Inc. by Omnicom Group Inc.Omnicom is a New York-based company that provides marketing and sales solutions globally.
• Introduction of revised age-based certification for films – The Central Government has introduced revised age-based certification for films. It aims to extend the U/A category certification for public performances with parental guidance. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a gazette notification amending the rules notified in December, 1991 laying down the principles for granting clearance to films for public exhibition.
As per the amended rules, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) will now have the power to approve films for “unrestricted public exhibition”, as well as to make age-based classifications according to their nature. The Government notified the certification of films in age-based categories, in order to promote viewing of age-appropriate films, especially for parental guidance groups.
The notification said, "Content suitable for a child of the age of seven years and above, and a child below the age of seven with parental guidance, shall be classified as 'U/A 7+' rating. A child aged thirteen years and above, and a child below the age of thirteen with parental guidance will be classified as 'U/A 13+'. A child of the age of sixteen years and above and a child below the age of sixteen years shall be classified as 'U/A 16+' rating."
• UAE's NBD Bank PJSC to open subsidiary in India - The Reserve Bank of India has given in-principle approval to United Arab Emirates (UAE)'s leading bank Emirates NBD Bank PJSC to set up a wholly-owned subsidiary (WOS) in India. Emirates NBD Bank PJSC is currently operating banking business in India through branches located in Chennai, Gurugram and Mumbai. "The RBI will consider granting a licence to Emirates NBD Bank PJSC to commence the business of banking in the wholly-owned privately owned banking (WOS) mode under Section 22(1) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949," the RBI said.
• Inauguration of Dedicated Jetty at Vizhinjam Port – Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Director General (DG) Paramesh Sivamani inaugurated a new dedicated ICG jetty at Vizhinjam Port in Kerala on June 7, 2025. This 76.7 metre long state-of-the-art berth will facilitate rapid deployment and withdrawal of ICG ships. This will enhance mission readiness for coastal surveillance, search and rescue, anti-smuggling and fisheries protection. This jetty is expected to play a vital role in the security of the south-western coast of India.
• Monetary Policy Statement, 2025-26 – On June 6, 2025, the Monetary Policy Committee chaired by Sanjay Malhotra, Governor of the Reserve Bank of India released the Monetary Policy Statement, 2025-26. RBI has reduced the repo rate by 50 basis points. Now the repo rate has come down from 6.00 percent to 5.50 percent. As a result, the Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) rate is 5.25 per cent and the Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate are 5.75 per cent

According to this, real GDP growth is estimated at 6.5 percent for the year 2025-26.

• Telecom Tariff (71st Amendment) Order, 2025 – On June 16, 2025, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) issued the Telecom Tariff (71st Amendment) Order, 2025. It said all retail FTTH broadband plans up to 200 Mbps should be offered to public data offices (PDOs) at a tariff not more than double the consumer broadband price. With the implementation of this cap, the backhaul charges for public Wi-Fi hotspots are expected to decrease significantly and will become up to 10 times cheaper.

• Launching of 6th 25T Bollard Pull Tug SABAL (Yard 340) - The 6th 25T Bollard Pull (BP) Tug SABAL was launched on May 27, 2025 at M/s TRSL, Kolkata. These tugs are indigenously designed. The shipyard has successfully delivered four of these tugs which are used by the Indian Navy to assist naval ships and submarines during berthing, un-berthing and manoeuvres in confined waters.These tugs will also provide fire-fighting assistance to ships on shore or at anchorage and will also have the capability to conduct limited search and rescue operations.
• India’s first gene-edited sheep – Professor Riaz Ahmad Shah and his team at the Embryo Biotechnology Laboratory, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST-Kashmir), Srinagar, developed India’s first gene-edited sheep. This sheep has been created using CRISPR-Cas9 technology. It targeted the myostatin gene, which increased muscle mass by 30%.It is non-transgenic, meaning it has not had any foreign DNA added to it.
• Stitched Ship or Ancient Stitched Ship - The Indian Navy inducted the Stitched Ship on May 21 , 2025 at a ceremony at the Naval base in Karwar, Karnataka. This ship is made by joining wooden planks together instead of nails. The Stitched Ship is a reconstructed version of a 5th century ship inspired by a painting in the Ajanta Caves. The ship was built using traditional methods and raw materials by skilled craftsmen from Kerala, led by Master Shipwright Shri Babu Sankaran. The ship was launched in February 2025 at M/s Hoddy Shipyard, Goa. The project is based on a tripartite agreement between the Ministry of Culture, Indian Navy and Hodi Innovation.
• Iron-doped catalyst developed for sustainable oxygen electrocatalysis - Researchers at the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), a Bengaluru-based autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), have developed a new catalyst to make oxygen-related chemical catalytic reactions faster, more economical and efficient. Iron-doped catalysts have been developed for oxygen electrolysis. These catalysts, especially iron-doped nickel oxide, exhibit high activity for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline electrolyte. These catalysts can be used in water electrolysis. These catalysts can be used to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, which is a possible way to make hydrogen fuel.
• A new species of ribbon worm called Pararosa vigaray discovered - A new species of ribbon worm called 'Pararosa vigaray' has been discovered off the Galicia coast of Spain. This worm is also called the "accordion worm" because it can fold its body like an accordion. The discovery was made in the Ria de Arosa estuary in Galicia, Spain.
• WHO Certificate for Trachoma Elimination to India - At the 78th World Health Assembly held in Geneva, the World Health Organization (WHO) awarded India the certificate for elimination of trachoma as a public health problem. This certificate was given by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization. Last year, the World Health Organisation (WHO) declared that the Indian government had eliminated trachoma as a public health problem. With this, India became the third country in the South-East Asia region to reach this public health milestone.
• India Forecast System - Union Minister of Earth Sciences Dr. Jitendra Singh launched the India Forecast System in New Delhi. Developed by the Pune -based Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, the India Forecast System will provide forecasts with 6 kilometre resolution which is the highest in the world. This will enable the Meteorological Department to forecast small-scale meteorological features more accurately. This system will boost monsoon tracking, aviation, cyclone and disaster management, agriculture, waterways, defence, flood forecasting. The India Forecast System is the only global numerical weather prediction system in the world deployed at such high resolution.
• Quantum Technology Research Centre – On May 27, 2025, India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) inaugurated the Quantum Technology Research Centre (QTRC) at Metcalfe House in Delhi. It has been established to further strengthen indigenous quantum capabilities for strategic and defence applications. It was inaugurated by Dr Sameer V. • Establishment of Centre of Excellence to Promote South-South Cooperation in Agriculture - International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), in collaboration with Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), launched the ICRISAT Centre of Excellence for South-South Cooperation in Agriculture (ISSCA) on June 3, 2025. It was launched during the Conference on the Global South and Triangular Cooperation: Emerging Aspects, held in New Delhi .The initiative aims to accelerate agricultural innovation and collaboration among countries of the Global South.
• Kumram Bheem Conservation Reserve- The Government of Telangana has declared the Tiger Corridor area connecting Kawal Tiger Reserve (Telangana) and Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (Maharashtra) as 'Kumram Bheem Conservation Reserve' as per the provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Kumram Bheem is spread over 1,492.88 sq km in Asifabad and Kaghaznagar divisions of Asifabad district.
• Nomadic Elephant 2025 - Nomadic Elephant 2025 is a joint military exercise between India and Mongolia, held from 31 May to 13 June in Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia). This is the 17th edition. Its objective is to familiarize yourself with the cooperation between the armies of the two countries and the working methods related to anti-terrorism operations. The exercise focused on conducting unconventional operations in semi-urban and mountainous areas. 45 soldiers of the Indian Army took part in it. They are mainly from the Arunachal Scouts and a unit trained for mountain warfare.The 16th edition of the exercise was held in July 2024 at Umroi, Meghalaya.
• 22nd Khan Quest, 2025 - 22nd Khan Quest, 2025 was a multinational military exercise held from June 14 to 28, 2025 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. This exercise brings together military forces of different countries to enhance peacekeeping capabilities. Indian Army also participated in this exercise. The exercise began in 2003 as a bilateral exercise between the US and Mongolian militaries and became a multinational exercise from 2006.
• 'Cyber Security', 2025 - "Cyber Security" 2025 is a national cyber security exercise, which was held from June 16 to 27, 2025 in New Delhi. It aimed to strengthen India's cyber security capabilities and preparedness against cyber threats.
• Launch of Fast Patrol Vessel 'Achal' - Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) launched 'Achal', the fifth Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) in the series of eight vessels being built for the Indian Coast Guard. This is an important step in strengthening India's coastal security.Designed and built under stringent dual-class certification from both the US Bureau of Shipping and the Indian Register of Shipping, the 52-metre long FPV has over 60% indigenous content. Weighing 320 tonnes, 'Achal' is equipped with a controllable pitch propeller (CPP)-based propulsion system. This provides a maximum speed of 27 knots.
• Keel Laying Ceremony of Offshore Patrol Vessel Yard 1283 - The keel laying ceremony of Yard 1283, the fourth Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV) built for the Indian Navy by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), was held on June 9, 2025. In this, Deputy Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan was present as the chief guest.
• Greater Flamingo Sanctuary – On the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, 2025, the Tamil Nadu government officially declared Dhanushkodi in Ramanathapuram district as the Greater Flamingo Sanctuary. Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated the sanctuary through video conferencing. It aims to preserve an important stopover point on the Central Asian Flyway for thousands of migratory wetland birds. The Greater Flamingo Sanctuary is part of the Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve and covers 524.7 hectares.
• First successful rocket launch test with payload in Uttar Pradesh – A successful model rocket launch test was conducted on June 14, 2025 in Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh. This was the first time a rocket carrying a satellite payload was launched from the state. This launch test was conducted by the Astronautical Society of India in collaboration with Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It was the launch of a rocket weighing 15 kg, carrying a satellite payload of 1 kg.
The rocket reached an altitude of about 1.1 kilometres, and the payload landed safely with the help of a parachute. The test was part of the preparation for the In-Space Model Rocketry/CANSAT India Student Competition 2024-25, which will be held later this year. In this competition, students will gain practical experience in designing and launching CANSATs (small satellites the size of cold drink cans). The event was organised to generate interest in space technology among students and encourage them to pursue this field.
• Vessel MV Wan Hai 503 - A Singapore-flagged container ship MV Wan Hai 503 caught fire off the Kerala coast on June 9, 2025. The Indian Navy and Coast Guard rescued 18 of the 22 crew members.
•'Rudrastra' VTOL Drone- Hybrid VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) UAV Rudrastra was successfully tested on June 11, 2025 in Pokhran, Rajasthan. Rudrastra is an indigenously developed, hybrid VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) drone used by the Indian Army. With a range of over 170 kilometres and a flight duration of up to 1.5 hours, it is capable of carrying out precision strikes and surveillance. This drone can perform vertical take-off and landing, which means it does not require a runway and can operate even from inaccessible locations. It is developed by Nagpur-based company Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL).
• India gets global recognition for Rinderpest virus control- The ICAR-National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD), Bhopal has been recognised as a Category A Rinderpest Holding Facility (RHF) by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO). This announcement was made at the 92nd General Session of WOAH held in Paris , where the certificate was presented to Mrs. Alka Upadhyay, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying and India’s Representative to WOAH, by the Director General and President of WOAH. Rinderpest, once known as “cattle plague”, was the most devastating animal disease in history, having been eradicated globally in 2011.

• World Airline Awards, 2025 – On June 17, 2025, the 'World Airline Awards 2025' were released at the Paris Air Show by market research institute Skytrax. Founded in 1989, Skytrax is an American consulting company that analyzes and compares the quality of airlines and airports worldwide. The 'Skytrax World Airline Awards' are called the Oscars of the airline industry.
Qatar Airways tops the list of the world's best airlines in 2025. Qatar Airways was named the world's best airline for the ninth time this year. Singapore Airlines (Singapore) stood second, Cathay Pacific (Hong Kong) third, Emirates Airlines ( Dubai) fourth and ANA All Nippon Airways (Japan) fifth. Qatar Airways also won awards in other categories, such as Best Airline in the Middle East, World's Best Business Class and World's Best Inflight Entertainment.

• Food Planet Prize 2025 – On June 13, 2025, the Food Planet Prize 2025 was awarded to Swedish startup NitroCapt. The award is the world's largest environmental award focused on food systems. This has been given to Nitrocapt for their green fertiliser technology. Under this, an amount of 2 million dollars is provided.
• Princess of Asturias Award, 2025 – Former tennis player Serena Williams has been awarded the Princess of Asturias Award for Sports for the year 2025. Serena Williams has been given this award for her stellar tennis career and her advocacy for gender equality. The 43-year-old American has won 73 career singles titles, including 23 Grand Slams. This award is one of the most prestigious awards in Spain and is given to members who demonstrate excellence in various fields including sports, arts, literature, etc. The awards ceremony, presided over by Princess Leonor of Spain, is held every autumn in the northern city of Oviedo.
• Military Gender Advocate of the Year, 2024 – The “Military Gender Advocate of the Year” award for the year 2024 has been awarded to Squadron Leader Sharon Mwine Sotey Sime, a Ghanaian peacekeeper deployed with the United Nations Interim Security Force (UNISFA). She received this award for her outstanding leadership in advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls. The award is given under the auspices of United Nations Peacekeeping and aims to honour military personnel who have made outstanding contributions to integrating a gender perspective into peacekeeping operations.
• 78th Cannes Film Festival, 2025 - The 78th Cannes Film Festival, 2025 was held in Cannes , Southern France. French actress Juliette Binoche served as the jury president for the main competition. Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi won the Palme d'Or for his political drama "It Was Just an Accident."Cannes' second-highest honor, the Grand Prix, went to Joachim Trier for his melancholic family drama "Sentimental Values."
The Jury Prize was shared by Oliver Lax for "Sirat" and Masha Shilinsky for "Sound of Falling". The best director award went to Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho for a tense political thriller called "The Secret Agent." • National Geoscience Awards, 2024 - M. Ram Mohan, Chief Scientist, CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute, has been selected for the National Geoscience Awards, 2024 by the Ministry of Mines for his contributions in the field of geochemistry. Dr. Mohan's research has significantly advanced geology, particularly in understanding Archaean crustal evolution processes, gold metallurgy, and the evolution of the Indian Shield.
• Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Telecom Excellence Award 2024 – Niral Networks, an emerging force in India’s telecom sector, has been awarded the prestigious Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Telecom Excellence Award, 2024. The award was presented by Hon'ble Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Minister of Communications, Government of India in New Delhi. • International Booker Prize, 2025- Karnataka writer, activist and lawyer Banu Mushtaq 's short story collection 'Heart Lamp' has been selected for the International Booker Prize 2025. The work has been translated from Kannada to English by Deepa Bhasthi. This is the first time a Kannada work has received this award. Heart Lamp, a book of 12 short stories written by Mushtaq between 1990 and 2023, gives a poignant portrayal of the difficulties faced by Muslim women in South India.
• Defence Investiture Awards, 2025 - President Smt. Draupadi Murmu conferred six Kirti Chakras including four posthumous and 33 Shaurya Chakras including seven posthumous to personnel of the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces and State/Union Territory Police during the first phase of the Defence Investiture Ceremony 2025 held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on May 22, 2025. These gallantry awards were presented to personnel for display of indomitable courage, exceptional bravery and total disregard of personal safety in the line of duty.
• Global Indian of the Year Award- Isha Foundation founder Sadhguru was awarded the 'Global Indian of the Year 2025' award by Canada India Foundation (CIF). The award ceremony took place in Toronto.This award was given to him for his contribution towards raising human consciousness and protecting the environment through the 'Conscious Planet Movement' .Sadhguru was also given a prize of 50,000 Canadian dollars, which he dedicated to the 'Cauvery Calling' campaign. The initiative seeks to revive the Cauvery river and improve the lives of 84 million people by helping farmers plant 2.42 billion trees. The "Global Indian of the Year" award is given by the Canada India Foundation (CIF) to individuals of Indian origin who have made a significant impact globally.
Scheme/Project
• Modified Interest Subsidy Scheme (MISS) - The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the continuation of the Interest Subsidy (IS) component and necessary funding provision under the Modified Interest Subsidy Scheme (MISS) for the financial year 2025-26. Modified Interest Subsidy Scheme (MISS) is a Central Sector scheme aimed at ensuring availability of short-term credit to farmers at affordable rate of interest through Kisan Credit Card (KCC).
• Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Ground Water Recharging Mission (Urban) - Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai launched Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Ground Water Recharging Mission (Urban). The aim of this mission is to restore groundwater level in urban areas and increase public awareness towards water conservation.
• Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Training Programme Scheme- The Madhya Pradesh Council of Ministers gave in-principle approval to the Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Training Programme Scheme to provide employment to the youth of the state. In this, skill development programs will be conducted for the youth. Under the scheme, the needy person will be able to get a discount of Rs 1,000 per year on bank interest along with a maximum discount of Rs 10,000 per person on loan interest for the entire lifetime. Approximately Rs 100 crore will be spent on the scheme every year.
• Launch of “e-Rupi” system and four new agricultural policies in Uttarakhand - Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched the “e-Rupi” system based on modern technology at the Secretariat. The Chief Minister also launched four ambitious agriculture policies (Kiwi Policy, Dragon Fruit, Apple Post Harvest Scheme and Millet Mission) to give a new direction to the agriculture system of the state. Under the “e-Rupi” system, the subsidy amount given to the farmers in the pilot project will be sent in the form of e-vouchers (SMS or QR code) directly to their mobile phones.
Farmers will be able to use these vouchers to purchase fertilizers, seeds and pesticides from authorized sellers.To promote apple production, the Uttarakhand government has set a target of ultra- intensive horticulture in 5,000 hectares by the year 2030-31. Under the Millet Policy, a provision of about Rs 134.8 crore has been made to cover 70,000 hectares of area by the year 2030-31. The total cost of the Dragon Fruit Policy is Rs.15 crore.
A target has been set to produce 350 metric tonnes of dragon fruit on 228 acres of land. The total cost of the Kiwi policy is Rs 894 crore. The target has been set to produce kiwi on 3500 hectares of land in 6 years. The target is to produce about 14 thousand metric tonnes of kiwi annually.
• Pilot Apprenticeship Scheme for Youth of North East - Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship launched a strategic pilot scheme to promote apprenticeship training among youth in the North Eastern Region. The scheme was jointly launched by Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge) Shri Jayant Chaudhary and Chief Minister of Mizoram Shri Lalduhoma in Aizawl. The initiative aims to provide structured, paid and high-quality apprenticeship opportunities to young people across the region.
As a major financial support measure, over 26,000 youth in the region will get an additional ₹1,500 per month for a year under this pilot initiative, over and above the regular stipend provided under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS). This assistance is for trainees from the North Eastern region who are undergoing training both within and outside the North Eastern region, to ensure that mobility does not become a barrier in accessing opportunities. A total of ₹43.94 crore has been earmarked for this pilot initiative.
• Prime Minister lays the foundation stone and inaugurates development projects in Bhuj - Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated several development projects worth over Rs 53,400 crore in Bhuj, Gujarat. The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of transmission projects for transmission of renewable energy generated at Khavda Renewable Energy Park. Khavda Park is one of the largest renewable energy parks in Asia. He initiated several projects to upgrade the infrastructure of Kandla Port. Several road construction, water supply and solar energy projects of Gujarat government were also inaugurated
• Prime Minister lays foundation stone, inaugurates and dedicates various development projects in Dahod - Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone, inaugurated and dedicated several development projects worth over Rs 24,000 crore (US$ 2.82 billion) in Dahod, Gujarat. The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Vande Bharat Express between Veraval and Ahmedabad and the express train projects between Valsad and Dahod stations. PM Modi inaugurated Indian Railways' locomotive manufacturing plant in Dahod. The plant will produce 9000 HP electric locomotives for domestic and export.
• Dairy Cattle Supply Scheme - Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai launched the Dairy Cattle Supply Scheme under the Dairy Comprehensive Development Scheme from Bhongapal in Kondagaon district. Under this pilot project, a total of 650 milch animals will be provided to the women beneficiaries of 325 scheduled tribe families of 6 districts namely Jashpur, Balrampur, Kanker, Kondagaon, Mahasamund and Sarangarh Bilaigarh.
• Project to Revive Bhukhi River - Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in collaboration with KRIDA and Global Kutch has launched a project to revive Bhukhi River in Kutch, Gujarat. The initiative aims to tackle water scarcity and bring about sustainable change in the region. This includes cleaning and strengthening of river banks, deepening of village ponds, repairing old check dams and creating new recharge borewells to help recover groundwater levels.
• Yuva Ratna Samman Yojana - Chhattisgarh Cabinet has taken an important decision to launch Yuva Ratna Samman Yojana. The objective of this scheme is to encourage youth and institutions making outstanding contributions in various fields of youth welfare in the state. Under the scheme, the main honour will be given to one youth and one institution every year.
• Chhattisgarh Homestay Policy, 2025-30 – “Chhattisgarh Homestay Policy 2025-30” was approved in the Chhattisgarh Cabinet meeting. This policy has been launched to promote tourism in rural and tribal dominated areas of the state and to provide new employment opportunities to the local people. Its objective is to promote tourism in the villages of Chhattisgarh and especially in the remote areas of Bastar and Surguja.
• Rajiv Gandhi Forest Conservation Scheme- Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu launched the Rajiv Gandhi Forest Conservation Scheme in Hamirpur. Under this, the aim is to increase green cover by planting fruit trees in barren and degraded forest areas, which will create new livelihood opportunities. On this occasion, he especially presented certificates to two women's groups of Naidun, Amlahad and Bhawdan. These groups will plant trees on two hectares of barren forest land and will also protect them for the next five years.
• Green Adoption Scheme - Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu launched the Green Adoption Scheme in Hamirpur. In the initial phase of the scheme, Ambuja Group will undertake tree plantation work on 25 hectares of land, while Adani Foundation and UltraTech will adopt 10-10 hectares of land. Under this scheme, private enterprises, corporate houses and non-governmental organizations will adopt barren forest land and plant trees.
• Thalliki Vandanam Scheme – On June 12, 2025, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has launched the Thalliki Vandanam Scheme. Under this scheme, every school going child will receive an amount of Rs 15,000 annually and this amount will be deposited directly into the bank accounts of the mothers. All the students studying from class 1 to 12th will get Rs 15,000 annually. The government will distribute Rs 8,745 crore under this scheme, which will benefit 67 lakh mothers.
• New FASTag based Annual Pass Scheme – On June 18, 2025, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced the new FASTag based Annual Pass Scheme for private vehicles. This scheme will come into effect from August 15, 2025. The annual toll pass will cost Rs 3,000. This pass will be valid for one year or a maximum of 200 trips (whichever is earlier). If 200 trips are completed before the end of one year, then this plan will have to be taken afresh. FASTag Annual Pass can be recharged from Highway App and other websites.
Operation/Campaign
• Operation Olivia- Operation Olivia is an annual operation conducted by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) to protect Olive Ridley turtles, conducted from November to May every year along the coast of Odisha, especially the Gahirmatha Beach, where more than eight lakh turtles visit every year. The campaign is carried out during the turtles' breeding and nesting season, to prevent threats such as illegal fishing and habitat destruction. Over 6.98 lakh Olive Ridley turtles nesting in the Rushikulya river estuary in Odisha have been protected under 'Operation Olivia'.
• Yashoda AI Abhiyan - The National Commission for Women launched 'Yashoda AI: Your AI Sakhi', named after Prime Minister Modi's mother, at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University, Bareilly. It was launched by Vijaya Kishor Rahatkar, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women. Yashoda AI, short for “Aapki AI Sakhi for Shaping Horizon with Digital Awareness”, is a nationwide campaign run by the National Commission for Women in collaboration with Future Shift Labs (FSL). This campaign is a pioneering initiative to empower women, especially girl students, by providing them skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cyber Security. All this is made available in local languages.
In this, along with giving information about AI to women, they will also be made aware about cyber crime. The initiative aims to train over two lakh women in its first phase, with a long-term goal of making 1 crore women AI literate across India.In the program which will run till the year 2027, girl students, women associated with self-help groups, Asha workers, teachers, Panchayat representatives will be trained.
• "Ek Ped Maa ke Naam 2.0" Tree Plantation Campaign - Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the "Ek Ped Maa ke Naam 2.0" campaign by planting a sapling at PM Shri KV School, Gole Market, New Delhi on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, 2025. Its aim is to create awareness about the environment and achieve the net zero target by 2070. Schools have been given the target of planting 10 crore saplings. During this time, he launched Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0 microsite, special modules and Eco Club for Mission Life web portal, which will track eco club activities in 14.7 lakh schools across the country. This portal is multilingual.
• Conclusion of Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan - On June 12, 2025, the 15-day "Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan" concluded in Bardoli, Gujarat. The campaign was launched by Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on May 29 from Sakhigopal in Puri district of Odisha. Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that 'Developed Agriculture Sankalp Abhiyan' was started to carry forward the 'Lab to Land' vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
During this campaign, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited various states and interacted with farmers through Kisan Chaupals, conferences and padyatras. Under this campaign, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan visited Odisha, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Maharashtra, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Delhi and Gujarat. Under this campaign, communication has been done with around 1 crore 12 lakh farmers and access has been ensured to more than 1 lakh villages. Dialogue programmes were organised at more than 55 thousand places.
We also met such farmers who have increased their income up to 10 times by taking advantage of new innovations and schemes. Under this campaign, 2,170 teams of 16 thousand scientists were formed. The teams of scientists went from village to village and communicated directly with the farmers and provided them with the correct information about the research. Farmers were given information keeping in mind the climatic conditions of the area and the requirement of the farm. Information was given on the use of balanced fertilizers and pesticides.
As a significant step to promote agricultural development and empower farmers across India, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has launched the ‘Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyaan’. The aim of this campaign is to promote advanced Kharif crop technologies, disseminate information on government schemes and obtain valuable feedback from farmers.
This initiative is a concrete step towards transforming agriculture and ensuring food security of the country through scientific innovation and grassroots participation. It is noteworthy that the contribution of agriculture in the Indian economy is 18 percent. Even today half the population is dependent on agriculture for livelihood.
• Sarthak and Rakshak Abhiyan - On June 17, 2025, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Shri Vishnu Dev Sai launched the Sarthak and Rakshak Abhiyan on the occasion of the 15th Foundation Day celebrations of Chhattisgarh State Child Rights Protection Commission. Its objective is to create awareness about child rights.
• Exercise Shakti 2025- The eighth edition of Shakti 2025, a joint military exercise between India and France, is being held from June 18 to July1 at La Cavalerie, France. It aims to enhance the joint military capability of both sides to conduct multi-domain operations. Exercise Shakti is a biennial training event between the Indian and French armies. The Indian Army contingent comprises 90 personnel, represented mainly by a battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles as well as personnel from other branches and services.
• Operation Indus - The Government of India launched Operation Indus on June 18, 2025 to evacuate Indian citizens from the conflic t zones of Iran and Israel. Under this, Indian students were safely evacuated via Armenia and brought to Delhi by a special plane.
Conferences/Festivals
• National Intellectual Property Festival, 2025 – National Intellectual Property Festival, 2025 was organised at CSIR-Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun. The aim of this event is to promote awareness of intellectual property in India. The programme is a part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' initiative and was first launched in July 2023.
• Rising North East Investors Summit, 2025 - With an aim to promote trade and investment in the North Eastern Region of India, the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region in collaboration with FICCI organized the 1st edition of 'Rising North East' Investors Summit, 2025 on 23rd and 24th May, 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the summit. The summit aims to provide a platform for in-depth dialogue to foster mutually beneficial partnerships among the business community, financial institutions and relevant government stakeholders.
Investment proposals worth Rs 4.3 lakh crore have been received and 8 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed at the 'Rising North East Investors Summit 2025'. Its key sectors include: tourism and hospitality, agriculture, food processing and allied sectors, textiles, handloom and handicrafts, healthcare, education and skill development, information technology and IT-enabled services (ITES), entertainment and sports, infrastructure and logistics, and energy.
• CSIR Start-up Conclave, 2025 – CSIR Start-up Conclave, 2025 was held in Mumbai. • 6th Meeting of the National Traders Welfare Board, 2025- The 6th Meeting of the National Traders Welfare Board (NTWB), 2025 was held at Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi. The main focus of this meeting was on the 'Vocal for Local' initiative, which aims to promote indigenous industries and locally manufactured goods. Shri Sunil J. Singhi, Chairman, National Traders Welfare Board presided over the meeting.
• Third United Nations Ocean Conference, 2025 - The Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3), hosted by the governments of France and Costa Rica , will take place from June 9 to 13, 2025 in Nice, France. The overarching theme of the conference is "Accelerating action and mobilizing all stakeholders for the conservation and sustainable use of the ocean".
The conference is preceded by three special events: the One Ocean Science Congress (June 4-6, 2025, in Nice), the Blue Economy and Finance Forum (June 7-8, 2025, in Monaco) and the Ocean Rise and Coastal Resilience Coalition (June 7, 2025, in Nice). The conference aims to support further and urgent action to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development and to identify further ways and means to support the implementation of SDG 14.
• 78th World Health Assembly, 2025 - 78th World Health Assembly, 2025 held in Geneva (Switzerland). The theme this year was “One World for Health”. Union Health Secretary Punya Salila Shrivastava represented the Indian delegation.
• 8th Meeting of the India-US Joint Working Group on Aircraft Carrier Technology Cooperation- The 8th Meeting of the India-US Joint Working Group on Aircraft Carrier Technology Cooperation (JWGACTC), constituted under the India-US Defense Technology and Trade Initiative, was held in India in May 2025. A six-member US delegation led by Rear Admiral Casey Moton, US Aircraft Carrier Program Executive Officer, visited various defence establishments in Delhi and Goa. The inaugural session of the Joint Working Group meeting was held in New Delhi. It was co-chaired by Rear Admiral Vishal Bishnoi, Assistant Controller, Aircraft Carrier Projects (ACCP). The main objective of this meeting was to further strengthen cooperation in the field of aircraft carrier technology.
• 3rd International Conference on Mediation in India-UK Commercial Disputes, 2025 - The 3rd International Conference on Mediation in India-UK Commercial Disputes, 2025 was organised by the Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA) on June 5, 2025 at the prestigious Church House Westminster, London. The theme was “Arbitration in India-UK Commercial Disputes: Coordination of India-UK Arbitration Practices”.
The conference was inaugurated by the Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai. Special addresses were given by Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of Law & Justice, Government of India, and Rt Hon'ble Lord Briggs, Judge of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. The seminar focused on “Synergies in India UK Arbitration Practices” with dedicated panel discussions on “Hybrid Dispute Resolution Models in India-UK Commercial Conflicts” and “Linking Dispute Resolution Mechanisms in India-UK to Enhance Trade and Investment”.
• 9th India Mobile Congress, 2025 – Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain that the 2025 edition of the 'India Mobile Congress' will be held from October 8 to 11 at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in New Delhi. It will focus on innovation-based transformation in technology and development. Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia announced the theme “Innovate to Transform” for the 9th India Mobile Congress, 2025. It is an annual event organised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).Telecom operators, equipment manufacturers and government organisations will showcase their telecom advancements at the event.
• PadhAI: Conference on AI in Education - 'PadhAI: Conference on AI in Education' was held on May 27-28, 2025 in New Delhi. It was organised by the Centre for Policy Research and Governance (CPRG). Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan delivered the concluding address in the closing session of the event.
• High-level International Conference to Save Glaciers, 2025 - High-level International Conference to Save Glaciers, 2025 held in Dushanbe (Tajikistan). Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh represented India at the event. It is noteworthy that the year 2025 has been declared as the International Year for the Conservation of Glaciers and the Decade of Action for Cryospheric Science (2025-2034) .
• 11th BRICS Communications Ministers' Meeting, 2025 – The 11th BRICS Communications Ministers' Meeting, 2025 was held in Brasilia (Brazil) on June 2, 2025. Its theme was– Universal and Meaningful Connectivity, Aligned with Space Sustainability, Environmental Sustainability and Digital Ecosystem. The Government of India was represented by Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar. India reiterated its commitment to inclusive, sustainable and future-ready digital growth during the meeting.
• 17th Foreign Office Consultations and 1st Strategic Export and Technology Cooperation between India-UK - India and the United Kingdom held the 17th round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) on June 3, 2025 in New Delhi. The meeting also saw the launch of the first Strategic Export and Technology Cooperation Dialogue (SETCD), aimed at deepening cooperation in high-technology and strategic sectors. The Indian delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, while the British side was represented by Sir Oliver Robbins, Permanent Under Secretary of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). Last year, the Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) meeting in 2024 was held in London. The next Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) meeting will be held in London in 2026.
• Eighth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, 2025- 2 – 6 June 2025 The Eighth Session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, 2025 was held in Geneva (Switzerland). It was organised by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). The event was co-chaired by the Government of Switzerland and UNDRR. India was represented at the event by Dr PK Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister.
• National Agriculture-Renewable Energy Summit, 2025 – National Agriculture-Renewable Energy Summit, 2025 was held on June 4, 2025 in New Delhi. It was organised by the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI). This conference was organized for dialogue and collaboration between the country's policy makers, experts and farmers regarding the inclusion of renewable energy in the agricultural sector.
• National Workshop on Use of Alternative Data Sources and Cutting Edge Technologies for Policy Making - National Workshop on Use of Alternative Data Sources and Cutting Edge Technologies for Policy Making-2025 was held on June 5-6, 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. NITI Aayog and the World Bank collaborated as knowledge partners in this workshop organized by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The main objective of this workshop was to promote the use of alternative data sources and leading technologies to complement traditional data sources in policy making, to enable evidence-based policy decisions in a timely manner.
• National Conference on Agri Stack, 2025 - Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare organized the National Conference on Agri Stack, 2025 on June 13, 2025 at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, New Delhi. The theme of this conference was– “Agri Stack: Transforming Data into Delivery”. The conference served as a strategic platform for senior officials from the Centre and States and key stakeholders to discuss the progress, challenges and future roadmap for implementation of Agri Stack under Digital Agriculture Mission.
• Yoga Connect 2025: 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' - Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India organized the global event “Yoga Connect” at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi on 15th June 2025. The summit was organised as a flagship event of the 11th International Yoga Day. Its theme was: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health”. Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Minister of State for AYUSH Prataprao Jadhav started the program by lighting the lamp.
• World Expo 2025 Osaka - World Expo 2025 Osaka is being held for 6 months from April 13 to October 13, 2025 at Yumeshima , an artificial island off the coast of Osaka in Japan. Its main theme is - 'Design of future society for our lives'. More than 160 countries and 9 international organizations participated in this expo. The India Pavilion has featured among the top five most admired pavilions at this Expo. For the first time, the Ministry of Culture has been given the responsibility of assisting in the pavilion. Whereas earlier it was managed by the Ministry of Commerce. Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) has been appointed as the nodal agency to organise and support this important international exhibition.
• International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure 2025 - International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure 2025 was held on 6th and 7th June, 2025 in Nice, France. This conference was held for the first time in Europe. The theme of this conference is 'Shaping a resilient future for coastal areas'. The importance of disaster resilient infrastructure was highlighted during this conference. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed this conference through video conferencing.
Treaty/Agreement
• Agreement to strengthen ground-based space situational awareness - A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES), Nainital, an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Instruments Research and Development Establishment (IRDE), Dehradun, a premier laboratory of DRDO. This agreement represents a strategic partnership between two premier scientific institutions of Uttarakhand, aimed at advancing objectives in the field of space surveillance systems and ground-based astronomy.
The objective of this collaboration is to support the development of state-of-the-art space surveillance and monitoring systems by leveraging the advanced astronomical facilities and scientific expertise in observational sciences of Aryabhatta Research Institute of Observational Sciences (ARIES).
• United States-Saudi Arabia Defense Agreement - The United States and Saudi Arabia signed a defense agreement worth approximately $142 billion. Under this agreement, Saudi Arabia will get the right to purchase advanced equipment and services from American companies. The signing took place during US President Donald Trump's visit to Saudi Arabia. The defense deal is part of Saudi Arabia's broader commitment to invest $600 billion in the US.
• Agreement between India Post Payments Bank and Aditya Birla Capital Limited – India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), a Government of India undertaking, has entered into a strategic collaboration with Aditya Birla Capital Limited (ABCL) to enhance access to credit for its customers. As part of the partnership, India Post Payments Bank will refer its customers to Aditya Birla Capital Limited for various loan products including personal loans, business loans and loan against property. The objective of this alliance is to integrate the credit products of Aditya Birla Capital Limited with the vast postal network and digital infrastructure of India Post Payments Bank to bring financial services to the underprivileged sections.
• Chagos Islands Agreement – On May 22, 2025, the British government finalised an agreement to transfer sovereignty over the Chagos Islands to Mauritius. British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer signed a historic agreement with Mauritius. Under the agreement, sovereignty of the Chagos Archipelago will be transferred to Mauritius, but the joint UK and US military base on Diego Garcia Island will remain leased for the next 99 years.
The UK will pay an average of €101 million per year to Mauritius under this agreement. The agreement is for 99 years, which can be extended for a further 40 years. A 24-mile buffer zone will be established around the island of Diego Garcia, where no construction can take place without the UK's consent.
• Uttar Pradesh Government-Monash University Agreement - The Uttar Pradesh government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Australia's Monash University, aimed at upgrading the state's education system to international standards. This MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The agreement aims to provide a global platform for research, innovation, training and technical collaboration to students and faculty members of basic, secondary and higher education institutions across the state. It aims to modernize the state's education system by focusing on skill development and global readiness.
Gautam Buddha University will act as the nodal institution to implement this partnership. This is in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020. Monash University, one of the world's leading research-based institutions, will provide world-class training and research opportunities to the teachers and students of Uttar Pradesh through this partnership. Former Delhi University professor and currently associated with Monash University, Prof. Manisha, who played a key role in giving this agreement a concrete shape, said that every year about 30,000 teachers are trained at Monash, which also includes teachers from war-torn countries like Afghanistan and Myanmar.
• India-Kyrgyz Bilateral Investment Treaty - Union Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman and Foreign Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Mr. Zhinbek Kulubaev Moldokanovich Protocol to the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) between India and the Kyrgyz Government was signed on June 5, 2025 in New Delhi. The Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) signed between India and the Kyrgyz Government in Bishkek on June 14, 2019 will come into force from June 5, 2025.
This new treaty will replace the previous agreement that came into force on May 12 , 2000, ensuring continuity in investment protection between the two countries. The India-Kyrgyz Bilateral Investment Treaty is an important step in strengthening economic relations and promoting a safe and predictable investment environment. The objective of a Bilateral Investment Treaty is to promote and protect the interests of investors of either country in each other's territory.
• Agreement between Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited and Kongsberg - An important Memorandum of Understanding was signed on June 3, 2025 in Oslo, the capital of Norway, between Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE), Kolkata and Kongsberg, a renowned Norwegian maritime technology company, for the construction of India's first indigenous Polar Research Vessel (PRV). This ship will be built indigenously in India.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal. The vessel will support advanced marine and polar research for the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research. A polar research vessel (PRV) is a ship that serves as a platform for research in the polar regions (areas around the North and South Poles). It can also help scientists conduct research in the marine region.
• Agreement between Bhashini-CRIS - Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD) and Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). It aims to collaborate on the development and implementation of next-generation multilingual artificial intelligence (AI) solutions on major public railway platforms. It aims to develop next-generation multilingual Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions for Indian Railways.
The MoU was formally signed by Shri Amitabh Nag, CEO, BHASHINI (Bharat Bhasha Interface) and Shri GVL Satya Kumar, Managing Director, CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems) in New Delhi. The collaboration between CRIS and BHASHINI will now make the service available in 22 Indian languages on platforms like National Train Enquiry System (NTES) and RailMadad. The aim of this initiative is to provide real-time information and assistance to crores of citizens of the country in their mother tongue.
• Partnership between Council of Europe Development Bank and TCS - India's largest IT services company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has partnered with the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB), a Paris-based social development bank, to modernise its operations and enhance efficiency.
• Agreement to launch UPI services in Cyprus – On June 16, 2025, during the official visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Cyprus, National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and Eurobank of Cyprus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to launch Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services in Cyprus. It aims to promote cross-border transactions, tourism and trade relations. Cyprus is the second European country after France to adopt UPI services. The current President of Cyprus is Nikos Christodoulides.
• Agreement for Multilingual Governance by Mizoram Government – To promote digital services in Mizo language and strengthen multilingual governance, the Government of Mizoram has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Digital India Languages Department, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on June 18, 2025 in New Delhi. It aims to promote multilingual governance and preservation of Mizo language and other local dialects through advanced language technologies.
• Tripartite Agreement for Promoting Inclusive Education for Persons with Disabilities - A Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) on June 18, 2025 in New Delhi. The objective of this MoU is to promote inclusive education for persons with disabilities. The programme was presided over by Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar and Union Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan.
The primary objective of this collaboration is to establish a strong framework to promote inclusive education for persons with disabilities in line with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Under this MoU, NIOS will set up special recognised institutions for education of persons with disabilities which will recognise special schools run by NGOs funded under Deendayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme. These institutions will offer various educational programmes including free basic education (level A, B and C), secondary, senior secondary and vocational courses.

Kumble has accepted this role without any remuneration. Kumble has previously served as the vice-chairman of the Karnataka Wildlife Board.
• Shivpal Singh- May, 2025 Indian Olympian javelin thrower Shivpal Singh is once again embroiled in a doping controversy. This is the second time in his career that he has failed a dope test. He has been provisionally suspended by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). Earlier in the year 2021 too, Shivpal had failed the dope test when the steroid Methandienone was found in his sample.

• Blaise Metreveli - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has appointed Blaise Metreveli as the first female head of Britain's Secret Intelligence Service (MI6). She will become the 18th head of this organization. This is the first time in the agency's 115-year history that it will be led by a woman. Ms Metreveli, 47, will replace Sir Richard Moore. Metreveli joined the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6) in 1999 as a case officer.
• Miguel Uribe Turbay – Colombian senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay was injured in a gunfire during a campaign rally. This incident took place in Bogota, the capital of Colombia, when he was addressing people in a park.
• Lee Jae-myung - Liberal Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung was sworn in as the 21st President of South Korea on June 4, 2025. His term will be five years. His closest rival was Kim Moon-soo of the conservative People Power Party.
• Karol Nawrocki – In June 2025, Karol Nawrocki, an independent candidate supported by the opposition Law and Justice party in Poland, was elected the new President of Poland. • Annalena Baerbock - On June 2, 2025, former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was elected President of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. She became the first woman from the Western European Group to hold this position. She is also the fifth woman overall to lead the General Assembly.
Vijay Lakshmi Pandit of India was the first woman to lead the General Assembly. She served as the 8th President of the United Nations General Assembly from 1953 to 1954. She was the only Indian to be appointed to this post. In the voting held in the 193-member General Assembly, out of a total of 193 votes, he got 167 votes in his favour. The President of the General Assembly is elected every year by secret ballot.

South Africa won the title by defeating Australia by 5 wickets in the final played at Lord's, London on 14 June. South Africa has won the ICC World Test Championship title for the first time. South Africa's Aiden Markram was named "Man of the Match". This time India remained at third position in the Test Championship table. The South African team is the third team to become the winner of WTC. Earlier, New Zealand and Australia have won this title. With this win, South Africa have moved to second place in the latest ICC Test rankings. Australia are at the top of the Test rankings and India are at the third place.
• New name of India-England Test Series - On June 5, 2025, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) jointly announced that the historic Test series between India and England will now be known as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Earlier, the series was known as the Pataudi Trophy, named after Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and his son Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. The purpose of changing the name is to honor England bowler James Anderson and India's great batsman Sachin Tendulkar.
